I realize this is an old video but wanted to point out a few things that should’ve been done- 1) you should always drain the old oil before putting in the new filter. If you put it in and tighten it down it will prevent all of the oil from completely draining (air cannot get in from filter). 2) you should always soak down the new filter with new engine oil, never put it in dry. Otherwise a very helpful video!

You forgot to mention also that the engine should be warmed, not too hot , but warmed up to help oil drain better .

Thank you very much for this vid!! It was extremely helpful in solving the same problem on my 2010 X5 E70. I believe the buckling of the filter is due to whoever changed it last not being careful to align the center plastic piece slots that goes into the filter with the tabs in the cap. If those are not aligned then it could possibly crush the filter like this. I found it easy to align by barely inserting the filter/center piece barely into the filter housing. You know that plastic piece that holds that small o-ring that is changed out. That way you can engage the slots in the cap before screwing that cap back down.

That magnetic drain plug is pretty cool. Helicopters use the same concept (chip detectors).

Super helpful. Will help when I'll need to do an oil change for my family's 2011 X5. Thanks Harrison!

Straight forward and good video, just wanted to say that; you did a good job. Nice to see a younger person doing a straight forward job without the glamour and BS. When I was younger, and my dad taught me to do my oil changes, the trick was to use new oil to not only lubricate the seals on (either the oil filter if the screw-in type, or the cap if the disposable-core type) filter, but also the drain plug washer seal. Dirty oil is typically broken down and is not consistently shaped; its not the biggest deal, but fresh oil is thicker and you are ensuring oil molecules are creating a good seal, and not burnable engine grime. Probably a little more important with conventional, but synthetic oil suffers the same when dirty. That's not a critique, but me just sharing my own experience. Again, great vid - I just wanted to know the socket sizes, bolt locations, and bolt torque settings... and sat down expecting to waste 30 minutes looking. Thanks :)

Can someone help me! I don't know the name of the part. If you pause at 5:42 you will see the alternator. On the alternator is two tork bolts that are blue if you draw a parallel horizontal line from the tork heads you will see the little hose going into the big hose. I snapped that male or female that attaches the little to the big one what part do I search to order please and thank you !

How much mileage was your x5? I was wondering if I should use the same brand of oil or the recommended Castro’s oil. This is by far the best oil change tutorial, other vids are shaky and dark and they say what tools they used.

Apparently Mobile 1 no longer carries the BMW LL1 spec. Be sure to check the bottle before purchasing. You can get the Castrol synthetic that is from Walmart. Also thank you for using a cameraman, too many videos are barely watching from someone trying to work on a car with one hand.

How often you do the oil change in the X5....is true is every 9 thousands miles????
@harrisoncope9414 Жыл бұрын
No- that is a sure fire way to get an engine full of sludge. I recommend 3k-5k miles depending on the oil you use. Full synthetic = 5k, IMO.
