For this particular engine, BMW recommends the NGK Platinum PLZFR6A11S plugs instead of the Iridium ones shown in this video. Also, Bosch FR7NPP332 is ok to use too. When replacing all 6 plugs, it's good preventative maintenance to do the 6 coils at the same time since you're removing them anyway to do the work. You can get the 6 plugs and 6 coils for around $200 from most resellers, including Amazon.

Thanks for the very informative video. Can I just remove the engine cover and not the air filter etc... if I am replacing just ignition coils? Thanks.

Excellent Video! I need coils replaced on my 08' X5. How many labor hours should a mechanic charge?

Dude how do you get the last plug out? Its a tiny work area and that is the most complicated part.

Seriously, it's like a video game. 1 & 2 are like getting to the Final Boss in Mike Tysons Punch Out.

Since that model uses an inline 6 cylinder engine, you need 6 plugs

Big warning in owner's manual about not putting any anti-seize or grease on plug threads due to potential head damage. Dont do it.
@kenm49228 жыл бұрын
Way too much never-seize, should only be a small amount down in the threads. Some people say none for BMW but for me, I use it.

It looks until moving on to the #4 spark, which is behind and under a big cylinder which is sticking out from the engine head cover - there is only enough space for 2 fingers to get to the coil from one side. Certainly not good for DIY -- I have not been able to remove the #4 coil to replace the spark.
