Great video - I appreciate your fairly minimal use of "TV time" lol makes the video seem like a pretty accurate representation of the amount of time this job will take.

My recommendation, don't put your channel locks direct onto the pistons. Leave old brake pad on or flip it over and use the old pad as a buffer between your tool and the pistons

Great video!! I got a warning light saying brake system: drive moderately. I check my break system on the screen and the rear pads are orange, you think that triggered that warning sign?
@AskTheCarExperts10 ай бұрын
If you have a brake system warning with a drive moderately message I would suspect this to be a different failure than just low brake pads. I would scan the vehicle for fault codes.

The x5 would tell you to change brake pads. Mine just did it today. Debating should a replace rotors and pads or just the pads since I have performance slotted and drilled rotors on the first set of pads.

Do you know which models are single and which are dual brake piston? Most other videos I’ve watched they’re single piston, want to make sure i order the right pads. TIA
@AskTheCarExperts Жыл бұрын
Vehicles with sport brakes are likely to have the dual caliper pistons. They are visibly larger than the floating caliper.

Does the sensor HAVE to be replaced at the same time? Or can the old one be used. Great video.
@AskTheCarExperts2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, BMW does state it should be replaced. But in some cases if carefully removed and it is not worn through you can re use it. But if the sensor is worn through and your warning light is on it needs replacement. It also may break during removal or the small spring clip can lose its tension.

Hello, I followed your steps and replaced the front brake myself. After the replacement, I drove around the city for about 15 minutes. Stopped and watched the brake disc, the running-in is not good, the inner ring of the brake disc is about 1-1.5cm, there is no ink mark, it is still new. Other places have run-in to. It doesn't feel good to run in left and right. But the rear wheel broke in just fine. I don't know if it's because I didn't install it well in front of me. I'll check again tomorrow at high speed. If it's still the case, should I reinstall the front brake pads again? thanks

Hi Justin, Checking in to see how your are making out with the break in of your brakes. Did you use BMW original parts?

When changing the front brakes If my brakes are worn and the red brake light is on , on the dash. Can i just replace the brakes or does the sensor have to be replaced too?
@AskTheCarExperts6 ай бұрын
Sensor will need replacement. It wears through and then the system detects an open circuit the brake pad light goes off.

where do you place your jack stands for front wheels?
@AskTheCarExperts3 жыл бұрын
Hello, With the jack at the lift point it does make it more difficult to find a good spot . Any spot where there is a frame area or a junction to the subframe at a control arm. I use them for safety only so I do not lower the jack. The stands are just a back up safety step. AGS tools now makes a jack stand that attaches to the inside of the jack. So the jack turns into a jack stand. Pretty cool stuff.

Hi there How to unplug the battery in my X3 BMW. The battery in the trunk under the spare tire. The reason to unplug is because I will be away for a few months.
@AskTheCarExperts3 жыл бұрын
Hello Nabeel, I would recommend using a trickle charger under the hood on the jump terminals to maintain correct battery voltage. You can disconnect the negative cable at the battery bit if you close you hatch on your X3 you won't be able to re-open the hatch to reconnect the battery. You would have to leave the hatch open.
@mojilnf3 жыл бұрын
@@AskTheCarExperts Thx a million. Meaning I could unplug only the negative terminal? Will this ensure that when I comeback a few months later and replug it, the battery will be as good?
@AskTheCarExperts3 жыл бұрын
@@mojilnf Glad to help Nabeel, Yes only disconnect the negative cable. Make sure your battery is fully charged with a battery charger first. Leave the hatch open for access to the battery. In a pinch if the hatch closes you can still power the vehicle from under the hood at the jump terminals using a jump pack. By leaving the positive cable on it allows power to get to the fuses when you power the car from the jump terminals with an external power pack. If both positive and negative are disconnected and your hatch closes you cannot power the vehicle at all to gain access. I think this topic will make a great video :) I will out one together. Thanks for the idea ;)

Technically you would still have to charge the battery once a month at minimum, its far cost effective if you have a garage and just use a AGM battery maintainer by hooking it up on the power points on the engine bay. Depends on where you are, its $130 versus $800-1000 for a battery.

In your video you did not tell people to clean the new rotors with brake cleaner because they are coated in grease,otherwise it is a great video
@AskTheCarExperts2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, Actually as long as you use BMW parts you do not use brake cleaner to clean the rotors. They have a special coating that is basically sprayed on and it comes off as you bed in the brakes. The remainder stays on for rust prevention on the rest of the rotor. If you do use aftermarket rotors that come oiled you would need to remove the oil with some brake clean. Thanks for commenting and noticing this difference.
@lobssangmarrero4781 Жыл бұрын
Rotors that are fully coated with a rust preventative do not have a need for an oil coating on them so there is no need to clean off what is not there…
