Mike Scherzer Yeah I caught that so I deleted the comment lol. Sorry about that. But I know what you mean about the weather. It's about the same here in southern VA.

I bought 2.8 Zed 3 ( not zee ) brand new in 1999. I loved this car. Had it 18 years. Great performance rubbish fuel consumption. It died on my local motorway when a rear tire burst at 70 mph. Massive crash. It saved my life and I miss it.

Do you have any reinforcement bars installed for stiffness around corners? is there any need for it? Are you fine with the 170hp or you feel you need more? Are there any leakage from the top when it rains? Can I use the car when it snows? What hiddrn issues does it have?
@baron_von_noob3117
@baron_von_noob3117 5 жыл бұрын
kay poly I have the 2.2 170hp model from 2001, for almost six years now, so let’s see. -The chassis is a lot better than most other cars, like Volkswagen. The chassis is made to also work with the M models, so it can handle up to 320 hp. I don’t have strut bars, the car corners great without them. -170 hp definitely feels fine for me, but if you can find a 3.0 for a good price, you can’t really go wrong with it. In terms of fuel mileage, there is no real difference. - The top itself should be perfectly fine, i would recommed using acid free vaseline or rubber conditioner for the rubbers on A-style, that should prevent the rubbers from cracking and leaking. - The car drives fine in the snow, provided you have snow tires, rear wheel drive in the snow on summer tires doesn’t work at all. I would recommend buying a hardtop for the winter, that should also preserve the plastic rear window on the softtop better. - Issues: The sideskirts are made of metal, which makes them vulnerable to rust caused by little pebbles etc. coming from the tires, look for that when you want to buy one. The 6 cilinder engine will use more oil when the mileage goes over 140k, switching from 5w30 to 5w40 or even 10w60 helps with that. These cars are very solid, the engine is very reliable, provided you keep it well maintained. Take care of the leather and make sure to not damage the plastic rear window, and it should work fine.
@kay19833
@kay19833 5 жыл бұрын
Hardtop? They sell those separately ? 5W 30 or 40 the W stands for winter and 40 or 30 stands for summer temperatures. I don’t see the reason why that should help oil consumption, or maybe you have better explanation?

Yeah it's not a big deal unless you're not an experienced driver in the wet or gravel. I drive my 2.8 all the time with ASC off. Quite manageable with over steer if you want to get sideways.

2.5L ….Get a magnaflow and cut the kink out of the exhaust pipe by the rear axle so it sounds like a sports car instead of a 3 series. I have one on my Z3 2.3
@DaytonCarCare

I think they stopped making the 1.9 after the first year or two of production. He was driving a facelift model and a 2.5 six with 184 HP. The 2.8 is 193, 3.0 225, and the M Roadster version had variations of 3.2 liter 240, 315, and 321 HP (UK version).
@DaytonCarCare
@DaytonCarCare 3 жыл бұрын
@Tom Smith Im 56 years old (so dont have to be young to appreciate extra power) and the 1.9 is still a slow pig of an engine. I prefer power especially when merging onto the freeway when 80k pounds of semi truck n trailer are bearing down on you. If I really cared about MPG I'd get a hybrid or electric car

@melissat922

They werent made in 2005 production stopped in 2002 but some are registered in 2003, the z3 is actually a great reliable car and certainly in the uk if you Can find one at a reasonable price with good service history and relatively low mileage they are increasingly rising in price and are actually a good asset to invest in while prices are still reasonably low. Try spending Around 6-8000 on a well kept example.

Major Crosby My brother gave me his black z3 for Christmas when I was 14 as my first car. My dad's been taught me how to drive it and I'm absolutely in love with it. If you're down to learn 5-speed before automatic, then yes, the z3 is definitely an amazing first car 😁
