As someone who has owned multiple of every single M3 starting with the e30, the last generation is my last as well. This is an absolute embarrassment to the M badge. The rear is fine, the front is atrocious to say the least. There is no amount of marketing spin or saying “modern interpretation” that is going to make this sell. Please facelift this for next year so that we can go back to purchasing them.

I've bought BMWs for years, primarily because they're such excellent drivers cars, but also because many of them looked good or at least alright. I think this is the first time that the aesthetic of the car repulses me enough to choose a worse performing car over this one. I'm so eager to see somebody come out with an aftermarket hood and front end that brings these back into the real BMW design language.

The design is not done by one guy. There is a BMW Group Chief designer, a BMW chief designer, M design, then the M team etc...Same guy that you say should get fired was there when the F80/F82 came out, the F87 M2, M8 and many other cool designs

It’s a 3979lb automatic sedan with the design of an Audi mashed with a Lexus. The M8 is a more compelling car and I always considered that the old mans M. M has lost their way. At least the M2 still rocks.

Agreed. It's a great example of theoretical concepts not working once implemented. Aircraft fuselage and hexagonal stance are great ideas to make a car look more sporty... but the moment they tested it out in the flesh somebody should've called it as not working.

That is when they said they will try to make them even more different in this next generation... and then they slapped same front on both of them, just like on the previous gen. So, again, only difference between 2 cars is the number of doors (I know I am oversimplifying things). I dont mind huge grill on the M4, they choose that design for the 4 series, most of the people don't like, I personally couldnt care less. But what I dont understand is why they had to go with that design on the M3.

The rear ¾ is pretty fugly too, and the Hofmeister kink and fender to fender body lines are neutered. Not to mention it weighs 12% more than the already heavy F8X generation, and automatic only. Oh boy.

@@nessuno5403 The taillights look identical to the current gen Camry. The whole under trunk rear plate area does too. It’s no big deal to me, just means when I need a bigger car than the M2 I’ll be in the market for a used RS6 Avant that hopefully comes down to earth prices by then. If I’m going to have an automatic boat, might as well be a AWD sexy looking one.

The car's design language is really messy the hofmiester knick is gone, the head light do not complement the grille. The tail end is a mixture of curves and boxes the shoulder line is split into two separate ones, the front end geometry is contrasting rather than complementing. What a shabby design. I hate when car makes think all press is good press. It isn't. People who are actual fans of the brand are turned off by the design.

​@@bmwblog The E60 is not liked because of it's design these days though. It's because the V10 was kinda unique for BMW. And it's also kinda cheap these days. I just hope, that the next model, that has the new Engine, will look better. Would be a shame, to see that good engine being wasted on ugly grilles - erm cars. Just forward the Prior Design video to the design team and make it happen, before Belzek sells it. This needs a facelift - fast. Bigger side intakes. Much smaller grille. That's all it needs.

The grill design is odious, the kidneys are way over sized. As for the hood jet engine air intakes belong on a jet aircraft, not a BMW. The M4's rear quarters are fine but on the M3 its as if they said 30 minutes before home-time on Friday "Oh shit we have to add two more doors". The transition from rear door to fender/wheelhouse is atrocious. The rear bumper is second in ugliness only to the E63 M6 which still holds the BWM crown for "ulgiest arse on an M car". Don't get me wrong, from the top of the boot to below is okay. The square in the round back bumper is where they lose it for me. I love 3 series cars with all my heart. I yearn to buy an E36 M3, being my absolute favorite of the bunch. But in this generation to pick from the top 3 German sport saloons is easy. RS4 first, then the C63 and finally avoid this abomination at all costs.

No explanation needed/possible,...the design is simply ugly. As many have noted,...1) Proportions are unbalanced, 2) No continuity of BMW heritage, 3) Trying too hard to be like Audi, 4) Rear window BMW kink eliminated, 5) Hood sculpting/Pig nose makes no sense. Good news, the expected 2022 redesign can fix all these issues with a new hood and new front fascia/bumper swap(as the aftermarket will likely create).

China counts the most millionaires and BMW knows that and there marketing department targets those markets. Don't get me wrong I am a BMW enthusiast but I don't like the new kidney grill designs. It just doesn't fit in my opinion.
