I was excited to get a chance to install a brand new android 9inch display from AvinUSA into a gorgeous Mercedes ML350. This is a truly welcome upgrade for the car, and brings not only new android functionality and improves the OEM technology as well. The OEM side looks better, brighter, and bigger, so things like the 360 camera look amazing!
Then, you add an android touchscreen and all of that new technology with updated navigation, the app store, and everything you could ever want.
This is something you definitely want in your car!

Also can anyone tell me if the 9” screen blocks the AC vents from air flow or opening and closing. From video it looks like it blocks just a bit of the vent on either side.

Hey! So just to be clear with the wiring, the main block take it out of the OEM head unit into the new wiring block that comes with the unit. then what plugs back into the head unit?

Does this use the original camera and microphone that comes with the car? I’ve seen another one of these that required adding new cameras and microphone. Also, does the backup and surround cameras pop up on the screen as soon as you put the car in reverse or do you need to manually put the system in non android mode first?

Thank you for your detailed instruction. I have recentry installed this display. Everything is warking perfect except of bluetooth phone. When I use Android bluetooth to make a call I can't hear anything. I can browse phone book, make and receive call using Android display, but there is no sound. Bluetooth Audio wark well. My android display wire harness each half a 3.5 connection. A long wired male connection on the wire harness with the fiber optics and a female 3.5 connection on the wire harness with the USBs. For those pulling out your hair regarding the missing audio instructions: find the connected male to female audio on the harness, disconnect it and plug in your 3.5 male to male extension audio cable and plug it into the female 3.5 to AMI connector (the rectangle looking connector). You’ll need to run this to the center armrest and theres a female AMI connector in there. Then select the audio input in command.

All current OEM functions will be just as they were before, so no changes there. A simple cheap screwdriver set should work for you, when you do the work.

you probably figured it out by now, but since you're the 2nd comment here I'll reply for others. You plug the AMI adapter into the AUX port in the center arm rest box. Then take the 3.5mm to 3.5mm, plug one side into it, and run the other side to the stereo. Unplug the 3.5mm currently plugged in, and plug the cable you just ran into it. Next, from the NTG menu, set the audio input to AUX.

Thank you great video. In the video you mention doing something with the AUX cable and you will cover it later in the video. It looks like you never got back to that. Did you do something with it in order to make the unit function ? Does it have to be connected to the AMI connector in the center console for the OEM side sound to work. If you did connect it can you post a video showing how to do it. And do any setting need to be changed to make the sound from either OEM and/or android side to work. Thank you.

If you go directly to AVIN website it specifically states you MUST have a WORKING aux plug for android audio to work . Take a look at their website directly For more info.

Absolutely yes.. it doesn't change any orm functionality, just gives a superior screen for those functions.

thanks for video. display is oversized for interior's aesthetics. it looks out place, an afterthought, like, it doesn't belong in the car. a smaller display would be more aesthetically appealing.

Can you explain what you did with the orange optical wires. That is the only part I really am not clear on.

Note where the orange cable originally is. When you disconnect the main car harness, you'll need to unplug the orange cable from it. After you install the new extension harness that goes inbetween the car harness and the head unit, you'll need to plug the orange cable back directly into the same spot on the head unit since the extension harness is now plugged into the head unit.

There isn't a way of using the oem mic that I am aware of.. but that is just me. Great suggestion and will plan a follow up video when I can.

Hi guys, when you unplug the cable from original screen, there were 2, one blue and other small black connector. I found and connect the blue but I am unable to find any connector for black one. Its left side connector form original screen. Can someone help me, how/where this should be connected?

@@tke2smooth hey, I fixed all myself. Working great everything. Regarding your first question, yea just ignore that black(left connector) from original screen. Regarding backup camera, you need to change screen resolution from factory mode. Let me know.

You should be able to find a hole in the firewall.. there are wiring harness bundles that come through, and you should be able to snake this wire there.

All sound is going to come through your AUX feed, so it should be the same as your oem head unit and speakers are producing now.

Thank you for your reply. I’m aware wiring is needed. I was talking about the 3.5 sound ox wire. Below is my initial inquiry….. Both wire harness have a 3.5 connection. The one with the fiber optic has a long male 3.5 wire. The harness with the USB’s have an aux input female 3.5. Which 3.5 wire do I route to the AMI connector? I currently have no sound. Thank you

hey dude i have an ml 350 2013 an it has the anti-theft protection activated i just bougt it as is i went to the dealer they say that radio it's from other car and it wont work, unless i get a new one fron them which its a joke cuz it cost 4.5k , im pretty shure these display its a solution for me but how do you turn on you need prees a boton from the radio ?? thanks

If using it entirely from the android side, it can have it start there first. Keep in mind it channels sound through the oem head unit, so sound comes through the aux feed.

So I havent worked with Mercedes much, but if its like BMW you may be in trouble. Head units for a long time have a code or ID in them and they have to match, or they do exactly what you are describing. I would start with your dealership and see if they can help.. if they cant, there may be some service or something you can find to wipe the unit or recode to your VIN.

I just did and having some issues. Very disappointed with the product as well as this guy. He’s out to build his channel and won’t knock the product in hoes they support him. He muddles through the install leaving a lot of unanswered questions.

@@od5 display brightness is poor athe screen has a glare on sunny days. So much so that you can't see your backup camera. Also t couldn't get the OEM buttons and center console knob to work with the android. I opted for a Road Top unit that uses the existing display for $300 and it works perfectly
