saying that "smth is the best" always makes me question: "but did you try everything?" sure, you can say "this is the best thing i've ever tried" and that's nothing wrong with that. but saying that smth is the best "in the game" without trying all the other variations doesn't make sense. it's the same as saying, "this is the best pizzeria in x city," and that city has 150 pizzerias. okay, so that person must have tried all 150 to then say it's the best, if not, how does he know that the pizzeria just around the block isn't better? we ain't that smart 😊 thanks for the great content, brant!🤘

As you say, Brant, we see this every day, everywhere. As someone who's been in BMX since the 90s and with a metal engineering background, I'm able to look at a product and quickly decide for myself if it's a good product based on the design and materials. However, my point is, if you're a younger rider up and coming in BMX, you may not know a good product from an average one and seeing pro riders saying it's "the best", is a problem if the product is simply average.

Thins is absolutely true i totally agree with you 100% Im a 80s rider when Matt Hoffman was testing the strength of his bikes then started making his own. And everyone rode on and still is riding under the name of the legend Hoffman. Keep on rocking BMX Brother

Great commentary Brant. While there is some junk in the market place, there’s a lot of high quality, high value choices available. In the end, it’s mostly personal opinions about “the best” and you know what they say about opinions. I’ve been around BMX since the late 1970’s. As a lifelong rider and fan of the sport. I see more choices and overall better quality of components now than at any other time I can remember. Sure some are better than others in quality, but it comes down to what is important to the individual and what suits their tastes. For some, durability and long lasting is the most crucial. For others, lighter weight may be more important. Some prefer the feel or smoothnesses of a particular product. Perhaps it’s a combination of those things or something entirely different. Branding is another animal. There’s a myriad of ways people relate to various brands or the riders who endorse the brand. Ride the parts you like and that work best for you. Endorse the brands you love. Everyone is different. As I stated earlier, that’s just my opinion.

Talkin about shoes, I got some motorcycles shoes that are more like convers looking but very well padded and kinda armor like with ankle support, pricey but i wont need ankle support or protection and their tip is insane for footjumps-anything.

I know what you mean, and I’m not even deep in the industry. I think people in general are fake a lot of the time, and it’s disorienting for me to deal with. Part of the reason I’m a one man show lately. Culturally I’m in my own thing than a lot of people and it’s BMX that not only helps my social life but also reminds me of how different I am than the others I share this hobby with. It’s a double edged sword, I suppose.

Bmx like any sport brings people together. Like you have 👍🏻 So I hope the industry never gets toxic. But one thing’s weird for sure - I still can’t do brake tricks well 😂

Here’s the deal…every industry that is a small, niche, activity (as seen by majority) is dealing with this as a result of the economic impact. Money is hard to come by these days, especially in these industries. This results in cutbacks and layoffs (which means less sponsored riders). Companies are calling it quits and there are less options for parts now than ever. This gets seen by the riders and it becomes a survival to keep your sponsor & feed yourself. So if the boss says do it for a paycheck they do it. In the past we had the options to try such a wide variety of parts and brands. Not today. It is a fun activity to those who aren’t busy trying to feed their families. Soon as the economy turns and people have money & time for leisure activities again, I think things will begin to turn around. I may talk about this on my channel even tho I try to steer clear of the politics. Thanks for your thoughts. You’re right it is spread across all similar industries.

I hear you about the fake hype culture and it Needed to be said. It's all about riding doesn't matter what or where. it was about doing your own thing not chasing the crowd. That gets lost sometimes.

DJ Khaled just started sweating. Seeing the title of this, I was mostly expecting to see a video of Kevin-esq riding, and maybe some aerobic trials biking. That said, you know I say, "the best," a lot about what I ride, but that is simply because I actually believe that to be true based on my and my friends' experiences. I think it really depends on the incentives of the person sharing. If the only incentive is to let people know how great something is, I don't see an issue with having and sharing an honest opinion.

It's all marketing at the end of the day. Companies need to make keep market and mindshare to make money. Like if you look at your vox pop you did asking people at swamp fest who are the best riders out there right now. Is it a surprise people mentioned riders that are on on CULT? While brands like BSD and FLY, who have insane riders, barely get mentioned.

I've been thinking the same thing, on the part of thinking somethings the "best ever" that's how I view Cult. Great brand, but those Cult x Vans Tires were hella overhyped, matter of fact I find the whole brand to be. Again, nothing wrong with them, but overhyped. Like they have an image. Same with SE Bikes, or GT, Haro. They have good stuff, but they sold out like 2 decades ago, and frankly SE, aside racing, doesn't even focus on freestyle like that anymore. Hype Is the enemy
