Back in 2000 when I started riding, if someone landed a double backflip or a double tail-whip, there was a good chance that person would win the competition. But now, everyone is pulling those moves, along with tricks that just don't make sense to me. BMX truly has become gymnastics...

I wish they didn't grade cash rolls and double backflips so high, I feel like a double downside 3 is way more pleasing and technical to watch. They always reward hucking over technical.

So how do you judge a contest where everyone is doing the same tricks. Most common is double or triple whip double backflip cash roll and spin combos. It's boring and it also sucks for the riders cause if someone does a no foot can can or Christ air or superman seat grab they don't score as high as the guy who flips or spins. So many more tricks that can be done but can't cause in today's x games you will not score good. Such a disappointment it really is.

There are infinite ways to further judge a trick. Height, commitment, extension, timing/spacing, style (jerky vs smooth), uniqueness, setup and landing, etc. The commentators only touch on some of this with the limited time they have. I suggest you watch more BMX competitions and look for the nuance in between riders and their runs to get a sense of how judges do their jobs.

Very similar to watching slopestyle an opposite tail whip wit a x up scores crazy high . If you do an opposite any thing with a combo is like max points , to me it's not really as spectacular as a spectator

True that. All events kinda are the same nowadays. Barspin, 3 Downwhip to Bars, Triple Whip. It's amazing how consistently these guys can pull those tricks, but it's just boring to watch. Before I get roasted by some oil slick riding kids - the above is just IMHO.

@@stegoeggo man I been watching and riding bmx for 30 years I'm 36 years old now this is my life. I have been put in a hospital 6 times riding bmx. So do I need to watch more contest I don't think so cause I've been watching contest since the late 80s early 90s and present and also have watched every x games since x games one. Now I will agree you can judge a rider on take off landing and how clean and presentation of a trick, BUT for the people watching ya I have to say it's boring because it's the same tricks over and over and like I was trying to say for the judges it might be hard to judge the same tricks over and over. How do you give someone first place when every Rider is pretty much doing the same tricks. I gotta be honest if I was a judge and being around bmx my entire life I would be disappointed that no rider is changing it up and throwing in different tricks. That is the politics in it tho. Spins flips bars and whips if you ain't doing that you ain't gonna score good. Know what I'm saying it's like a Superman seat grab or a no foot can can ain't worth the risk no more it won't score good even though I know from learning them that once you get over the fear In your head a backflip is so much easier than those two tricks, so why is it that you can't score good with a super clean no foot can can unless it's with a flip or spin.

This comment does not make that much sense as the podium here is obvious. The gold medal run was a lot crazier than the rest and the silver run was a little better than the bronze. Its not like MTX where there is only like 5 tricks.
