I recently took some time to fabricate a couple of essential components to aid this fantastic 34 in its quest for big power numbers. The goal is to make a stout amount of power with stock location twins so Art of Assembly had me do a custom hot pipe setup, larger diameter intakes to suite a carbon airbox and a twin 3" inlet downpipe with a large exit merge to play well with the exhaust I previously built for this car. I tried to cover a broad spectrum of the work on this project from the initial thought process and planning, explanation of execution, I toss in a few weld techniques/weld shots as well (I've gotten a few requests for this, if you guys like these please let me know and I'd be happy to do more), and an overview of the finished product. I apologize for the mic placement on the intro, I am still learning.

Sound clip coming once the new setup is getting dyno tuned 😁 the car immediately went to art of assembly for disassembly to receive its new heart

The clearance for the mines pipe is my biggest gripe about it. Sits way too low and roads in ATX just love to give it little love taps

Its a great part but it definitely has its inherent flaws. I currently run one on my 33 and it is demolished

Just to clarify - you do a lower amp "root pass" and then an additional hot pass? Might have to try this!

Only on lap joints yes. I haven’t been able to consistently avoid keyhole’ing until I utilized this method. Ideally the root is just a very low amp fusion pass but if there’s a slight gap that won’t fuse I’ll add a little filler

Could you use an oval section for the lowest point on the rear turbo's downpipe to help with clearance? I'm neither a fabricator nor a welder so I don't know if there is enough length before/after to complete a round-to-oval-to-round transition.

It’s a fair idea but committing to oval means there needs to be a transition to and from round to oval. This requires a great deal of length and often times makes oval tougher to deal with
