We run some big, long, heavy trains here in Australia but I don't believe I've ever seen one here with 9 Locos at the front of it.... 6 is normally the maximum we see.

There's a good chance that the train with 9 locomotives was ferrying some back to a yard. It's typical for road trains to pick up or be assigned extra engines that are needed elsewhere on the railroad. Thanks for looking!

How busy is this line? I want to plan a trip down here but I don’t want to go if the traffic is sparse.

I would say moderately busy. Traffic was pretty good, but there were some periods of time (maybe 2-3 hours) were it was quiet.
