Spot on! It shows how people are quick to judge someone and say they are shallow because of what they post (forgetting that there is a real person behind those posts and that their posts might be their way of expressing themselves.)

I have been trying to find a reaction to this song that actually gets it for so long. All the reactors laugh through the part that isn't supposed to be funny and it drives me crazy. here's my message to white women watching this song: Bo isn't speaking to you. He's speaking to the ills of social media and how there's so much pressure to relate to the masses even though you might be suffering outside the walls of your social media presence.

Maybe your view of superficial is the wrong take. The post were never superficial. That's your judgement. Woman could just be living her life and the ones judging everything a girl does or posts is the problem. That's my take.

The song/video is structured like you're scrolling through a white girl's instagram. You see numerous fairly shallow, cringey images, then boom, something so fucking personal and humanizing in the middle. Her pic before has her celebrating her 27th birthday, and the middle verse has her saying "It's been a decade since you've been gone" and "give a hug and kiss to Dad". At 17, she lost her Mom, and has at this point lost *both* of her f*cking parents, who she clearly loved dearly. Sure, she posts stereotypical stuff, but... she's doing alright, she's in love and getting married, and got through that. It's very... down-to-earth. It always hurts my heart and makes me cry, relating to the middle verse. Incredible song.

Bo Burnham is an amazing artist. This clip is from the awesome special "Inside", which he created completely solo during the Pandemic. Great reaction, and more Bo Burnham is always welcome. 👍✌❤

The thing that's missing from the KZbin viewer or a "reactor's" point of view is the reveal. When you're watching Inside for the first time, you wouldn't know what the song is called or where he's going with this, at least during the first verse. You just see a bunch of weird feminine poses and an avocado. 🤣 A lot of Bo's clips would benefit from being more indirectly titled. There's a lot of fun in going WTF before he hits you with the point or punchline

Omg yes! That's true for a lot of his songs. And sometimes even on Netflix the subtitles will say the name of the song when it starts playing and give it away. I taught a Film Clubs session for my library on Inside and we always use the subtitles to make sure we don't miss stuff. I had to very carefully keep flicking them on and off so they wouldn't spoil stuff. 🤦‍♀️
