Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZbin, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZbin. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZbin, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

maybe the critics dislike it because it sounded corny at the time but the band got the last laugh because it went to no. 1 in the u.s. !

We knew every word of the song in high school. Everybody would be going around singing it. I remember a friend and me walking into the biology class (we didn't take biology) and singing it to the biology teacher. She thought it was great. I still remember every word and I'm 65. I think the Paper Lace original was better.

These guys were my first concert. My 8th grade class won a contest and they played in our gym. Other than a few songs, they played covers. They were really good.

I was a kid when this song came out and remember hearing it on the radio but I had no idea what it was about. It wasn't until about 3 years ago when it came on when I was listening to a playlist on Spotify and for the first time I actually listened to it. I was stunned by what it was about. The song I thought was lighthearted and fun turned out to be about war and dying. Being that I had some family members who had died in Vietnam, it hit me pretty hard and I was walking down the sidewalk with a huge lump in my throat. We didn't have the Internet back then and I'm still finding out what the actual lyrics are for songs I've loved all my life. Finding lyrics back then was really hard. If we knew the chorus and a few lines, that was good enough.

I've probably heard this one on the radio at least 2 dozen+ times since it was released. They played it a lot for awhile. In all that time I had no idea who the band was. Thanks for that. Let the music play!

Actually it was the other way around - PL came first, this one is the cover ( and not nearly as good -way too fast and without any real emotion ).

Hey, Shawn.. I'm writing this note before I even listen to you reaction.. just b/c this song was popular when I was a teenager.. and we always laughed about it.. but hearing it so many years later, I came to realize that it's actually a well-written song, and Bo had a great voice.. so whenever I hear it these days (rarely), I appreciate it.. as I'm sure I will appreciate your listen & reaction... lol (yep, that military-style drumming was such a part of the theme...)

Great Reaction! I always preferred this version by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods. Although it seemed more like it was a story about a Union soldier of the U.S. Civil War, because it came out when it did Americans could not help but draw parallels with the Vietnam War and how regardless of when it happened, the effects of war on both those who fight on the front lines and their loved ones back home are pretty much the same. Being female I viewed it from that POV, and I while I could understand the fiance's grief, her reaction always bothered me. 50 yrs later I feel as torn as I did back then. Anyway, as always I thoroughly enjoy watching your reactions and hearing your thoughts and insights! I look forward to seeing more of your reactions.

I first remember hearing "Billy Don't Be A Hero" by the UK band Paper Lace in 1974 & then some months later it became a US hit for Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods. They also did "Who Do You Think You Are", "The Heartbreak Kid", "Our Last Song Together" etc.

A good companion song in both music tone and message would be One Tin Soldier from the movie Billy Jack.

This song went to number 1 on the US Billboard charts in 1974. The Paper Lace version released in UK is subpar but don't tell a Brit that.

So, your Mom saved your life. Kind-of fun to enjoy some of the worst of the sixties and seventies. I suppose after this there's nowhere to go but songs like "Honey" or "Timothy." Songs so sad they're almost comical.

coming in at #3 in the Billboard top 10 worst Rock/Pop songs of the 70s. Boy were they ever right. This Bubblegum crap song was made fun of more than almost any song of that era, or really any era. Painfully lame! Absolutely embarrassing. I've never seen people rush so fast to change the radio channel, as I did when this fiasco was playing. Other than that, it's a great song. Thanks Shawn.

God awful song. 🫤 I never listened to the lyrics before. Sad story but the music and vocals still suck. 👎
