Refs throw flags continually today. You can't play defense anymore without flags being thrown. The 80s was the best decade to watch football, especially if you were a Niners or Giants fan.

@@sisophous exactly I tried to watch the 49ers vs Saints a couple weeks ago. Brees gets sacked. Defender doesn’t drive him into the turf. Actually let’s up as they’re going down. Brees gets awkwardly and they penalize the 49ers for roughing the passer. I had to turn it off. It’s just not football anymore. They might as well put flags on the skill players and just play flag football

@@davep1103 You have never watched tape in detail of Lawrence Taylor I can tell.. Others are more successful in career totals and accomplishments, sure, but nobody and I seriously mean it.. Nobody was doing what LT was.. Just "dOuBlE tEaM" him😅😅.. Taylor making plays that require more than one man most of the time all by himself.. One because he is unbelievably athletic and scary tenacious, also because his IQ is probably the best ever as well, for real.. Taylor the type of dude to completely annihilate a guard tackle combo and still tackle John Riggins for a loss👀.. Or he can just run down all pro backs behind the line of scrimmage for losses, be in coverage against Rice etc.. you really don't understand.. That'd be like Brady throwing a screen pass to a all pro receiver and still manages to be a lead blocker downfield for tds on the regular😂.. Shit like that you wont ever see for obvious reasons but with Taylor, thats on the daily.. Do us a favor and watch film and know what your looking at.. because LT, transcend defense son.. Hes the best football that ever lived and its not close.. In my book, Brady number 2 and I'm a lifelong Patriots fan.. Its not about stats with Taylor, REALLY watch him.. The best football that ever lived in my opinion.. I cant do nothing but smile seeing him do superhuman freak shit, no weaknesses in his game whatsoever.. Taylor be asleep in the middle of gameplanning, wakes up and tells Belichick and the defensive what the plan is and sleeps again.. He was that good nobody was better at football than LT..

@@brianmartin3084 Reggis White didnt do as much...LT was deadly no matter what task he was asked to do he was a monster against every type of running play especially at the goalline he was arguably the best pass rusher the game has ever seen and when asked to drop back in coverage he was exceptional as well...they used him a handful of times as a gunner on STs and he consistently wiped out the punt returner less than 1second after the returner caught the ball...he had no weakness. If you watch the reels on him a utube user named john smith has uploaded you can verify for yourself that he consistently performed at an ALL Pro level in each dept-coverage, pass rushing, and run stuffing...He also demonstrated that he was exceptionally effective when asked to line up as an ILB instead of an OLB. Players usually have strengths and weaknesses...There are players who are in the HOF just because they were almost as great as he was against the run, or in pass coverage, or as a pass rusher, but werent anywhere near as great, maybe werent even really good at all in 1 of or maybe even both of the other 2 basic depts...He wasnt just good he was dominant in every phase of the game... Reggie White, as outstanding as he was, isnt even necessarily the best def lineman ever...Some insist that Deacon Jones was better...others might suggest Joe Green was better, and others would also suggest that Aaron Donald is better...Regardless of which of them was the best the bottom line is the impact even the greatest def linemen ever have isnt as substantial as the impact LT had...Hed beat double and triple team blocking efforts just as those 3DLs could, but unlike them he could regularly make u pay by dropping back into coverage on a play where uve assigned 2-3 blockers to account for his attempt to get to your QB-which never comes-and are therefore out of position/outnumbered/caught off guard if/when they bring the blitz via other angles, gaps, and positions..Having a player thats anywhere near as good as any of those players are makes all the other defensive players jobs easier, but to have a player with that kind of impact may be closer to the advantage provided by having an extra defender on the field.

But both of these guys in this one were pretty damned impressive, Jackson not unlike Campbell in style before his unfortunate premature retirement.. Taylor just seemed to me a damned smart player who read plays well and managed to be where the action was, often by dodging the blockers or going through them when necessary. On some of the plays where LT was not involved in the tack I noticed he did his assignment well, playing the contain position on the edge instead of going for the tackle.... LT was a lot more disciplined than I gave him credit back when he played. He was also able to come off his contain assignment and pursue the ball. LT is the best football player of all time I have ever seen regardless of position. 2nd would be Larry Allen.

They got good money back then. If you made a million a year in the 80s that was good money, enough for a lifetime for an ordinary person- and to live well too, not just try to live like someone in the middle class. Plus the best players got endorsements and other money besides their contract. The huge difference between today and back then is today virtually anyone that gets drafted by a pro sports league is set for life. Back then you had to be important to the team and stick around for several years at least.
