I made 3 of these double ended so no matter witch way you throw them they always stick . I practice all summer last year & I can throw with good grouping from 30 yards & be within 6 or 8 inches or so of each other , used my knife & axe target with them . The best way I can describe how to get better by throwing these are to start off at 12 feet & work your way back until you can’t hit the target anymore then once you find your sweet spot start to develop your grouping then once your grouping gets great you should get that grouping every time . Be careful because if you hit it flat they will bounce back & hit you . Safety 3rd .

I make and use these but I don't use a fixed point (a tree) to throw at. I get a friend to hide cardboard targets at different height, distance and no so obvious places. I have my set of bo shuriken and start from the beginning. If I miss one shot and/or miss a shot, I have to start again. Excellent throwing weapons and so easy to make!

Ninja assassin weapon. Practice at least twenty meters away or more. The target is surrounded by guards.

At 5:05 you mention the 'release angle', but you never actually explain or show which angle you release the bo shuriken at. I changed the playback speed to 0.25% speed but still can't tell which angle you throw the bo shuriken at. I release my bo-shurikens at 45 degrees, is this what you are doing?

Hard to take someone seriously who may have some skills but obvisually hasn’t trained long enough, or with a teacher who was trained in Classical Japanese methods. The words you use belie a lack of formal training. However…. Thank you for using the proper term shuriken for a dirk and not the circular shaken that most westerners call shuriken. Also, you spelled it correctly when using Jutsu and not the erroneous misspelling of jitsu as so many people do. But then… The word you use here, “bo” comes from the word boku or tree. Bo generally means a stick. It is often used to refer to a wooden staff, though Bo, in and if itself, does not mean staff. In classical Nihon Bugei a staff would be called by its length, e.g. rokushakubo means a 6-shaku stick(staff). In this context you are saying “wooden spike”. Your Shuriken in this video are not made of Wood are they,except for your practice ones? Shuriken jutsu is a perfect way to refer to the skill set you are exemplifying here. And you do have a good close quarters projectile weapons skill set it seems.

@donoberloh2 жыл бұрын
@@johnemmons9087 I’m glad you find yourself humorous. So let me see if I understand you… you think that people should just walk around passing on erroneous information because they were not trained correctly?! That is the major reason that Japanese Arts in the western world are so out of touch. The techniques and names are seldom even recognized by the Major organizations in Japan. Don’t get me wrong , this paradigm is not just with western ‘instructors’. It also applies to a whole lot of instructors of Asian heritage but who were born and raised in the west and want to make money off of gullible people. Not unlike many Charlatans on Okinawa and in Japan after WWII. I’ve had this discussion with many of my friends too many times. They, who have been trained correctly by un-reproachable instructors of various Japanese and Okinawan arts say it’s not worth their time to teach people who have no concept of proper etiquette, manners, or customs to appreciate the hard earned wisdom they think they can just pay for with a monthly donation. I tell them that they are part of the problem we all face. If the masses have nothing to compare the Bullshido to, or have no access to quality Sensei, how can they be held accountable for passing on more Bullshido? I for one, think better of western students.
@narwa39912 жыл бұрын
I think John's comment intends to emphasize that the video has little to do with formal training or correct terminology more than is intended simply to demonstrate for the lay person the effectiveness of the weapon and particularly how to manipulate it, i.e. _where "formal training" is evidently unavailable, relatively, one can just easily learn things for themselves if they are to devote time and effort, including history and correct terminology.
