A Wild camping adventure into Ben Alder Forest: Kev and I set off from Kinloch Laggan for a bike, hike and wild camping trip into the remote Ben Alder Forest to bag four Munros, Carn Dearg, Geal-Charn, Aonach Beag and Beinn Eibhinn. Kev brings along his new Lanshan Flame's Creed tent, that he's never pitched before.

Smashing video again Robin. They keep getting better and better. How would you compare the Lanshan to the SMD? Is the Lanshan worth a punt?
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Paul. 😁 The Lanshan's porch is huge in comparison to the SMD and it wasn't flapping like the SMD in the 15-20mph winds. I didn't pitch it very well mind you. The inner looked pokey and not as well appointed. For around £70 though, it's definitely worth a punt for a backup/2nd tent. Kev said that a chap uses one in the Alps no bother.

@@PaulMessner There is lots of videos on the lanshan 1 Paul, not many on the upgraded version apart from this yin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip7QhIuMl6hgitE I would say the Lanshan 1 is similar to Robin's tent, the Lunar solo. The upgraded pyramid version which I bought is meant to be similar to the MLD Duomid, without the quality material of course. For the price tho yi cannae argue.

Robin, a pretty cool way to get the mountains (even if there was a shit bit ;-) Yep that hydro scheme looked pretty dreadful and hopefully will merge into the landscape more as it is obviously helping to save the planet ;-) Enjoyed Kev's takeover and his 'Flame's Creed' - might be worth the price for the name alone. Looked like a great trip - it was very clear despite the lack of sunshine. A pump might be on your Christmas list? Take care :-)

Hey Robin, just like your recent Fisherfield trip we were there just before you two although we cycled in from Dalwhinnie, camped by the bridge just before Culra for two nights and bagged the 4 munros on the Thursday 2 weeks ago. Daft question but why don't you carry a spare inner tube, I had to change mine before we even made it out of the car park at the start of the trip but had no problems after that.

Hi Alan, that's a bit spooky. Where you off to next? 🤔 To be honest, just a bit of complacency. That's a new bike that I use to commute to work on too and I just haven't got around to buying spares for it yet. The puncture was broken glass, probably from cycling to work and not the bike and hike.

Bike vs Walk in question. How long did the the potential faceplant section take to negotiate Robin? Also with that amount of bikes parked by Culra, how busy was the parking spot at the road end in Dalwhinnie?
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 5 жыл бұрын

Great video Robin. I have been wondering about that track for a while. I walked it many times in the past but have been thinking of cycling up to Loch Pattack so that’s good information for me if they have changed it all with the dam etc. Re the flat tyre. I use Schwalbe Marathon Plus 37 mm tyres on my cycle cross bike and with about 3000 off road miles on them I still have not had a puncture. Neither has the wife in hers. They have a Kevlar band in them and are virtually puncture proof. atb.

It's a more interesting and varied route than Dalwhinnie. So it's recommended, even with that short boggy section. I had Marathon P's on my old hybrid and I got around 1 puncture a year. Are they decent enough for road and off road use?
@smujiodome
@smujiodome 5 жыл бұрын
Walk With Wallace 👣 I only ever use them off road. Usually on the canal or land rover tracks. I’ve never used them on really rough ground. I have a good road bike for the road but I won’t go on the road these days and I never will. There’s a thing between the motorist and the cyclist and I point blank refuse to have any stress when I’m out cycling. I don’t commute so it’s only ever for leisure.

Walk With Wallace 👣 I’d give them a go then. I’m not sure what size they start at but mine are 35 mm and they were ok on the Lin if Dee to Geldie lodge track. I think if you put about 50 psi in them they would roll very well on a road. Definitely worth it for the puncture proof aspect not to mention the durability. Oh and that Dalwhinnie road is a real slog isn’t it? I have walked that loads of times. Never ending.
