02.23.2010: The police estimated that 600-700 people rallied at Jenks Park in Central Falls Tuesday in support of the city's high school teachers. Just an hour after the rally, the Central Falls school Board of Trustees, in a brief but intense meeting, voted 5-to-2 to fire every teacher at the school in front of a crowd of 200 supporters and teachers. On the other side, teachers unions say such efforts undermine hard-won protections in their contracts.
