Always a good sign when the game board and the box disagree about the name of the game. Triple points when the _advertising_ reveals the discrepancy. Re: "Chess", "chess board", "chess pieces"; apparently Chinese has a specific character, "Qi" (棋) for strategy games (that don't involve cards), and by adding to this character you get the generic terms for "game board" and "board game piece". Chess is naturally one of many "qi", and apparently the default machine translation, which a competent human copywriter would have to recognize and replace. Interestingly, Chinese _does_ actually have a generic term for "board game" (literally "map game"), but apparently no one copywriting at Temu or AliExpress uses that word for some reason.

I remember playing it in the "gifted kid" class in high school, along with those weird tessellation puzzles. 8:22 "5 player tokens but only 4 player cars" That's because in some newer actual Game Of Life games, there is a small minigame where each player puts their token on a number. Then you spin the wheel. If you put a token on whatever number the spinner landed on, you get money. Whoever initiated that minigame also gets to put the silver token on another number, giving them a higher chance of winning.

The way that Aliexpress works is that basically everything is resold by middle men. When I delivered milk a few years back they had this one Veggie shop that used to get lots of "interesting items", I treied to look for this online and couldn't find it but it was a rip off of Battleships, It had the usual guff, but it had an image of all the ships lined up on the side and then one BIG Ship, like "Look at this realistic ship", only it wasn't a ship it was a Grey D*ldo. I am serious they had somehow copy pasted a grey d*ldo on the box and it wasn't even a submarine, well not sure, but I think it was trying to be a Cruiser... I pointed it out to the store owner and he just laughed... but didn't take it off the stand it was on... So yeah... I tried to look for it online, but couldn't find it, this was circa 2009-10 from memory. The owner was a funny Vietnamese guy, some of his comments, well, I can't repeat them but yeah he had so many weird things on sale, like the shop was Fruit and Veg for 90% of the floor space, but the counter was loaded with International Phone cards, kids toys, chocolate bars etc, then in the corner was where he had the milk which I delivered and stocked the shelf. Then there were all these stands with just a ton of knock off travel sized games, knock of action figures and stuff I am not even sure about. That store was also where i first saw self heating drinks, those blew my mind... Sorry rambling, that store was crazy, sadly it's gone now. EDIT: just to Clarify I'm 99% sure therewas NOT a d*ldo in the box itself, the IMAGE on the box was a D*ldo and it was just on the back, the front was a cartoony sorta image ripping off the image on the offical Battleships mostly, just with bad cropping. The back had the board in the centre with the peices beside the board and then on one side it had words like "Super Real Boat Model" or something similar and then where it SHOULD have been a close up of the ship peice it was just a d*ldo. I would collect money on Wednesday's and he had customers so I just picked it up and started reading all the spelling mistakes and incomplete sentences and then saw it there and burst out laughing.

To be fair, Battleship wasn't invented by Milton Bradley. It was a pen & paper game from the early 20th century, & several companies made their own versions before MB came out with their version. I'm also fairly sure Headbands is a variation on an old parlor game. Chess is apparently used as a generic word for game in China. Trouble is just a variation on Pachizi or Ludo. It was designed in the 60's, I believe, so I'm sure the patents are probably expired by now. In fact, that's probably true of most of these games. By now, people should be allowed to copy them; that's the point of patents expiring. Blocus is a fairly new game; it may be the exception to my statement above.
