Great tips. Especially love the tip about Melodice, I'd never heard of it before and it's fantastic!

Great video! I support a lot of what you said, especially for beginners. Surprised to not hear about BGA compared to tabletop simulator. Great video quality, audio and editing. Good stuff!

You explain everything in such a good detail even a non English speaker would get it +1 SUB

Oh, I get what you're saying. I dove right in with JOTL and Arkham Horror. 🎉. Hehe. Watched playthroughs and found that I really connected to them.

Great upload. The only thing I'd add is for beginners is to visit the local library to try a game before buying a game and visiting the second hand market to rehome games and possibly spend less for a game you are unsure about. Careful with eBay for inflation. Facebook has boardgame groups that also sell and cull their collections. Really appreciate the breakdown of your video and all the shared information.

Those are great tips too! I’m from a super small town and our local library doesn’t have any board games nor do we have enough people for Facebook groups near me so I didn’t think about those options for others.
@Naru-Maki3 ай бұрын
@@HollerBoardGames ah that's a bummer about the library. Yeah Facebook board game geek group or other board gamers can ship it is like another BGG but through Facebook platform. Hopefully your library can get a donation of board games some day to be able to offer that option

Or if you live in a big enough area, craigslist is another place I have bought a lot of second hand games.

wow! excellent video and very well presented! tons of useful advice for new people here! I'm going to subscribe because I'm very interested to see where this channel goes! One thing, and I hate to be a buzzkill, but I hope everyone gives some careful thought to the whole wax and candles thing. I certainly have enjoyed that type of stuff a whole bunch in the past, however, it recently occurred to me that I'm burning/ melting and breathing various chemicals in my home when I'm doing that stuff. obviously, there are health effects to consider in that regard. I still love it but I do it much less now. once again, great video and good luck with the channel!

Melodice is a neat site. A very comprehensive list of board games. In the Dead of Winter playlist, there are two Taylor Swift songs... lol

Important to bear in mind: If you can afford it, buy games from the developer's own website. Yes, you will pay for shipping, but the developer makes the best profit that way. -Toby

Independent game stores would shut down if everyone followed this advice.
@tobyr212 ай бұрын
@@vanman266 Well...I think you are right. I guess better advice is to try to support both your local game store (currently, I have none) AND buy direct from developers. Thanks. -toby

I buy board games from Amazon, but not many because I just got back into board games this year. If you bought fakes from Amazon, you should tell us which ones you bought unless there's a good reason not to do it. Please tell us how to spot fakes.
@HollerBoardGames2 ай бұрын
It’s not easy to spot them before you buy them unfortunately. Try to notice if you’re buying from the publishers store on Amazon. If it’s a 3rd party seller without a good reputation you increase your risks of getting a fake. Also notice the pictures used on Amazon to advertise the game. If they’re blurry or pixelated or low quality that’s not a good sign. Once you get the game look for things such as lots of misprints in the rulebook or components that are terrible quality. Boards warping, really thin cards, faded art, inconsistent coloring on the components, things like that.
