Producing Board Games in 2024

We visited yet again the cardboard factory in Czech Republic where all of the CGE games are made and we are taking you on a tour to see all the cardboard magic in action! But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to making board games so we are also sharing with you our production process - from prototyping with our super cool printers and lasers, to how we develop our games! We tried to break it down into steps and show you the amazing behind-the-scenes journey of a board game from prototype to your table! You can really see that they play a lot of games and produce with players in mind. If you just outsource the production somewhere far abroad often you get this games where you keep wondering "why did no one think about this?" Here you have them be like "we had space on the cardboard so we printed extra material... Because we can." That really makes a difference.

This was so fascinating! There is so much involved in the production of a game that people take for granted. I can't even imagine the algebra needed to solve the optimal Kutna Hora & other game distribution to maximize both weight & volume to use a container to it's full potential. Once you get the equipment and experienced workers in place. Unfortunately the US is lagging behind China and Europe in these, so China is much more price efficient.

I love the vids that CGE is putting out with their history, behind the scenes, etc. Already a fan of their games, and now a fan of the company as well. In stark contrast to another company not too far away across the border that has been treating their fans like crap during a recent Kickstarter, rhymes with “Mortal Games”

Speaking of spare parts, I was ones missing pieces from my Praga game. CGE was so kind to send me the print file on pdf to identify the missing tiles. This was so kind that CGE has got into my heart and became one of my favorite publisher. Kutna Hora is definetly one of the games I like to play next. ❤

Great video. Love these behind the scene views as they make me jealous of everyone in them. Though I do have a question about the use of 'UI' for icons (and probably other graphics). 'UI' and 'UX' have more and more frequently been used for 'graphic design' instead of their traditional use with digital screens. I wonder how graphic designers feel about this, because as a UX designer it always confuses me. Sure I create icons, but print based communication is a different field entirely and I would not be well equipped to work on board games in this way, though I would love to try!

ouch on the complexity of some of modern "board games" ... they are too often a massive table top life experience and requires unwieldy numbers of components, a dedicated gaming space and a dedicated gaming group. I know many enjoy the intensive experience, just identifying that fact that most are not "entry level" for more casual gaming. My favourite "casual gaming" experiences are with a variety of styles like Azul, Catan, Carcassonne, Rummikub. btw ... love these "behind the scenes" 'tubes

Maybe try play testing the components before releasing them. The card stands are terrible, way too tight, mine was damaged before game even started. Had to sell as slightly damaged. Would it have killed you to make the slider guides 1 mm wider? And what’s with an app release a month later. The ‘computer stands’ were not even needed, could have shaved $10 off the game by not including the stands at all. Besides that, the game was real big disappointment. So many flaws and tacked on mechanisms. rewood pieces only good thing, yet no testing on other major components.
