The "easy mode" from the rulebook where you just turn the goal tiles into blank obstacles instead is very simple but really good for teaching the game and for a lighter experience

I really dig the game! The presentation is absolutely beautiful and the components are colorful and of great quality. Despite the looks the game is actually rather thinky. One thing I dislike is the randomness of the tiles placed on the table. Sometimes you just get bad tiles turn after another, and the other players always snag the one you want!

Thank you for the review, SungWon. I heard good things about Calico, and it sounded like a fun game. But so far I did not really get a good feel of what it would be like to actually play it. For some reason, your review did the trick. I might get it at some point for a holiday or something, as I think it's the kind of game I'd want to play over and over instead of once in a while.

I love this game, but it is deceptive. It can be a brain burner trying to get all the sets and goals. Really fun and simple to play, but very puzzly. My wife and I had a blast with it.

I played this game with my family and we were about 3/4 of the way done playing when I realized we were doing it slightly wrong but it was still pretty fun with our accidental "house rules", I would definitely play it again now that I understand it

Scythe is probably the first game I played with an achievement system. If you've never played it, it's basically a worker placement game mixed with soviet styled mecha combat.

I'm pretty sure there are different rules/ways to play that come with it, and I think there's a two player version

@@bookshelfhoney the two-player variance is to remove a set of 36 tiles if you don't want tiles repeating too much, otherwise the rules are the same. The rules are a little different if you wanna play solo, tho.

I'm kinda new to board games and mostly focused on ones you can play with 2 players, and being cute helps a ton in getting people to play who might otherwise be intimidated. Been using your reviews and honing in on cute 2+ player games, and so far this one has been the best. It's so dead simple and yet so complex. Trying to juggle colors and patterns for the scoring tiles with also trying to get buttons and cats is kinda brain bending and I can see it taking me a few more games before I can fully grok it. So many times in the first two games I ended up cockblocking myself in very stupid ways entirely on my own. Balancing the various methods of scoring is so...not hard per se but challenging? And rewarding. The achievement system is wonderful but, if anyone reads this, can they double check something for me? Is it really only the winner that gets an achievement point for the game (assuming they can find one that hasn't been taken by them yet)? That might suck if one person ends up winning most times...a bit more hardcore than I would want it, but that is REALLY fringe criticism since it's just optional achievements.

I have a huge board game that I've always liked and was pretty good and was standard. I think you should review the game chess. Maybe its just me, but I play chess constantly and if you learn a bit of some tactics, it's a really fun game to play with friends, or just a fun game to play at all. Even my brother likes chess and some of my friends do too. They don't quite like it as much as I do but I honestly love it and I think you kind of would like it too. Anyway just a suggestion in mind I think you should do.
