I agree that Gloomhaven evokes the feeling of a dungeon crawling d&d game. This is especially true when comparing it to 4th edition, an edition that was widely panned for feeling too much like a "board game/video game" than a "role playing" game. In 4th edition you had defined "powers" that had different recharge rates, e.g. at will, once per fight, and once per day. They were all formatted in the book like cards and they even sold card-ified versions of the abilities. I will say that to me, what makes pen and paper RPGs special is the freedom and the actual role playing, not the stats and number crunching. I like those things too, but those things can be replicated in video games and board games, the interpersonal RP and the narrative freedom are the truly unique things about d&d and the like.

Anne Marie is right about the grid stuff in dnd, what you played with was Theater of the mind where distance and line of sight probably doesn't matter that much as it would if you played with the more standard grid map rules. @@yumo Unfortunately I'm not super well versed in Tabletop RPGs, but I'm certain there are other games that are more focused on the story and role-playing without the war-game style combat that D&D and other similar games have. I'd look in tabletop rpg groups and see their recommendations for heavy RP games

Can we get a video where you just go over your favorite board games and display your collection? As a big board game fan, I always love seeing what other people keep in their collection and play the most.

Didn't realize how much you guys were into the hobby! Tabletop board games and RPGs are my fav hobby, so I was super surprised/excited to see some QUALITY games, and not Monopoly, Scrabble, etc. Now I need to watch more videos on your channel. Subbed...

What's wrong with Monopoly and Scrabble? Are you fucking gatekeeping a dying and niche hobby?
@SGTMaitiMaus2 жыл бұрын
@@hughmann9568 Are you serious or just trolling? Dying? Niche? The Tabletop industry is multi-billion dollar industry that has ONLY grown every year for the last decade. Maybe you're just ignorant, to which I say, just Google the information. Seems like you need to hop on the train. And it's not gatekeeping to not like something. My point is that when you mention board games to people outside the hobby the first games they think of are Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, etc. There are better games out there, hence this video.

Great video! You are both so awesome together. I have played many of those and enjoyed them as well. I would enjoy more videos with you both on board games or whatever. They are always entertaining.
