Hi! I'm the designer and it's awesome hearing your thoughts on Golden Ticket - thanks for sharing, both pros and cons! You're 100% accurate with the scoring system - between the different options, we chose the one that best suited the movie theme over the one that might suit moderate gamers, mostly to ensure that a child can have a "Charlie bucket" moment. That choice is definitely less appealing for those who are more accustomed to strategic boardgames... and I wonder if there was another way to go about the design in that regard. I really appreciate your review and it's giving me some things to think about! For anyone who is into boardgames enough to be on this channel, I recommend this variant: - count most Wonka Bars - each golden ticket being worth 3 Wonka Bars - all Side B tiles

So I really like your game. However we did get into an argument about the "may immediately" part of taking the action when you move to a space. Does that mean, as an alternative, we can move to a space and not do that action until later on the turn (assuming you stay on that space)? For example, move to a space that gives you bars for sweeping, but not do the the action, then play cards, then do the space's action/sweep.

@@PablowingUrMind Hi! Sorry for late response, didn't get a bell on this one. The specific sequencing is - Finish moving, land on a space - Immediately choose: activate the space or ignore it - If you moved from an effect like Slingshot Gum, resolve the "take a card" part - If activating the space involved some other chain reaction (eg Charlie Bucket's sweep letting you move again) repeat this sequence from the top - Otherwise, take your next action In other words, you can't "save" a space effect to sequence between actions - I remember testing with the option but it got cut eventually.

As a fan of the movie, I absolutely love the dedication to the source material here. Even if the bars themselves took a bit of time to set up, it’s so worth it to have them physically represented in repeat games! For my game group, in terms of house rules as far as winning goes we made it super simple: only have one golden ticket. There you end up with an ultimate winner and you end up with a bit more of a competitive game. Still, I really love the end result and it’s one of my favorite games on rotation. You should be very proud of this one and I can’t thank you enough for your hard work on it!

My kids absolutely love this game. They argue every morning who gets to be Charlie bucket. My only issue with the game is how weak Mike teevee is. Two actions on rowdy cards almost never works out and usually ends up using that third action to refill his hand. Augustus gets that free action every two turns at least.

Fun Fact, well more Funny than Fun: Roald Dahl hated the Gene Wilder Wonka story because a lot of things were done behind his back and he had basically no involvement in the movie so he'd drive around the theaters on opening day, screaming into a megaphone to not watch the film. Even more ironic was that Gene Wilder hated Johnny Depp's portrayal of Wonka, yet the person who specifically wanted him in the part, was Roald Dahl's Widow, because she knew what he would've wanted for the film.

Suffice to say, Roald Dahl had a terrible vision for the film if what Johnny Depp gave was something he would have approved of.

Wonka is meant to be offbeat and weird, both Wilder and Depp can play this greatly. Note the “comedic pause” in Wilders case. The difference in the tonality of it. Gene Wilders portrayal was charming but intimidating when he needed to be, Depp was just creepy. I think this is because of bad directing and problems that are at the heart of the film for Depp. I think he could’ve played a great Wonka, but for me Gene Wilder is always gonna be Willy Wonka

@@poopa_stinka For me, it's Wilder that makes me more on edge. No person that's been a shut in for years, will develop good social skills. Also, it wasn't bad directing, as I said, the Authors' widow (lifelong partner) wanted Depp to be Wonka. More specifically, right after she saw the start of his interpretation of the character. I really suggest you watch Everything Great About Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Part 1 and 2 by joshscorcher. He really explains in FULL detail just how far everyone was willing to go for this movie. Because they all believed in it.

I think I would institute a rule of having just 1 ticket regardless of the number of players you have. Have 1 winner of the game rather than multiple, especially if kids are involved. Multiple tickets could easily alienate the 1 person who doesn't have a ticket if everyone else managed to get one. Also, maybe it's just me, but games with multiple winners kinda defeats the purpose of playing.

This movie has always been one of my favorites! I'm actually stoked there are multiple Golden Tickets because now I can keep one (looks like it's actually movie-accurate!) and still use some in-game.

Nice review. We got this one and enjoyed it because we really LOVE the movie :) we usually just play with one golden ticket, and try to switch up other rules. The bigger the fans of the movie, the more fun I think you’ll have with this one

Gain 2 Wonka Bars every time a character Belches on their turn. The "Belch" action requires a player's entire turn ( it uses 2 actions )

I like this movie type board game, the cards look nice but the time needed to set up the chocolate bars in the wrappers is the main problem I have with this board game.

If you want to make this more competitive you can easily just house rule this to 1 ticket and whoever finds the ticket wins. You can either have people opens bars as they find them or just do the usual open them once theve all been found. Atleast thats the way I'd probably play it.
