Honestly, the way those locks at 1:00 look, with their bright, pastel colors, and the gaudy-looking envelopes, I assumed this was a kid's game until you explained it. I've never actually been to a puzzle room but I would expect a lot more 'classical' aesthetics to it. It's a game, so they can't use real materials or it'd be expensive. But, faux wood or metal or copper pieces, normal envelopes with wax-looking seals, Egyptian-looking cryptic clues, that sort of thing. Not diary-looking letters and word games.

we picked this up for a christmas family (all adults, i'm the youngest at 28) game night. we thought it was OK, and thought the puzzles were like, fine, but we solved it in less than half the given time, even doing the paths together one at a time. the physical locks were definitely the worst part and would sometimes not open with the correct combo, or come unlocked before we finished dialing the correct combo, which takes some of the tactile fun out of it and makes it feel cheap. we clued in on the "not really replayable" problem and solved it by using tracing paper over the papers, so we could just immediately rebox it and give it to someone else.

2:53 Re-playable? Do they mean non-destructive as in many of the Unlock games as opposed to some EXIT. That is you could pass it on to someone else to 're-play'.
@ahchiu92 жыл бұрын
As long as you use pencil and write very faintly, it can be passed on to someone else, but there would still be some creases on some of the puzzles. The only way to really get a fresh attempt is to print out new pages (which is free to do, I believe)

More escape room in a box reviews! I back a lot of these on kickstarter and I'm always interested in learning about new good ones.

I've played this one and I absolutely agree with you. Good for kids, way too easy for adults. It's also way too easy to cheat (as we found out from one of my nephews just spinning all the lock combos)

I've played another 'escape room' game from the same company and did not have a good time with it. The games themselves were stupidly easy and dull, but the instructions were obnoxiously vague. This made the game somehow both boring and frustrating at the same time. This one seems to have figured out how to write coherent instructions, but still has the same boring/easy puzzles.

Hey buddy, I tried to do a search, have you ever done any of the Disney Villainous board games? I'm surprised that one hasn't come up yet.
@amandalacava1452 жыл бұрын
I know you weren't asking me, but I thought I'd give my insight. I tried Villainous once with a friend and I don't know why, but at that time, playing it wasn't really all that fun and exciting. Probably because of the learning curve; each character plays differently, some are easy to play while others are harder. However, I did give the game another chance and holy cow did I fall down the rabbit hole. I bought a few of the expansions and Villainous is now easily one of my favorite board games.

Interesting concept for a board game but once you showed the contents it was quite disappointing. There's online escape rooms that are way more interesting (and also free!)

What's really funny is I saw ProZD's review first and thought the same thing. However, my friend, who is a fellow escape room enthusiast, happened to be gifted this for Christmas and we ended up playing it anyway just the other day. I definitely agree with everything Sungwon said about the game, but we'd been drinking and the game ended up being a lot of fun. I don't know how much the game itself is, so I couldn't tell you if it was worth the money or not, but probably would not purchase on my own. Glad it was a gift my friend decided to share with me.
