Not quite 2000 (2001) but one I just recently received from a BGG individual who culls his collection every so often and ships the game to whomever has the comment he likes the most at his own expense! So generous and I was sent the game Venezia. It is a German version as I don’t think it was ever printed in English but I used Google Translate, a scanner and Adobe Pro to convert the rulebook to English. Quick synopsis “As Pigeon clans, players vie for roosting rights in the districts of Venice.” Had to see what a game about pigeons was all about!

Some really good games here! I love Princes of Florence and Die Macher! Such amazing games. Princes of Florence is fantastic at 4/5 people! Die Macher is one that still feels like mostly a "new" board game, even though it is super old! Other great ones on the list as well, just thought I shouldn't spoil all the picks in the comment :P Looking forward to more videos in this series! :D

All the Knizia’s! Route building? Try Through the Desert. Auction that Jeff will actually like? Try Medici. Area Control that Jamie will like? Try Samurai. Cute? Try the new Zoo Vadis remake of Quo Vadis. 20 minutes? Tutankhamen. You’ll probably go broke trying to find all his older classics, but it’s so worth it. Only knock is a lot of these are best at 4 or higher player count.

Elk Fest has been on my radar for quite a while. Something about flicking games gives me that dopamine dump. Some suggestions: *Space Hulk (1989) *Blood Bowl (1994) *Robo Rally (1994) *Pitch Car (1995) More flicky goodness!!

You’d probably really like Show Manager! My favorite game pre 2000 (you should have gone with 1995 which is when the boardgame renaissance started) is Crude, an economic game about oil production and markets (which unquestionably inspired Catan).

Great video. Love seeing some older games. Ones I grew up with my gateway games as a teenager which I would at least look into are cosmic encounter, talisman, and titan. Different titan titles out there this one is a purple box says 1980 on bbg, great old school game if you have 18 plus hours to play. Cosmic.encoumter is a classic, talisman is definitely a older simple mechanic but for its time it was a lot of fun. As always thank you both for the great videos and thank you for wingspan. Really do enjoy that game.

Just watched your buddies at Board Game Ramblings do a "Have we played top 100 BGG" video and El Grande came up. This is a bit if a grail game for me and someone mentioned that the German version is available for a reasonable price. For about $50 including shipping i shall have it! It's from 1995 by the way.🙂 Also, am I the only one or is KZbin becoming more and more aggravating? Captions keep popping in on every other video and the subscription bar comes on screen after every commercial.😠

Being much much older than you I played many of these years ago. The original title to Nightmare Productions is Dteam Factory (in English) and it's fun, Die Machet (Pronounced Dee - in German the 2nd vowel is pronounced long your German 101 lesson for today. Anyway the game is a very good political game for its time. Three pre 2000 games to try are Wabbit Wampage, Stellar Conquest (one of the very first 4x games) and Nuclear War (a dark humor card game).

THE PRINCES OF FLORENCE is great fun! It’s great for introducing people to auction and polyomino games! (QUACKS OF QUEDLINBURG is by Wolfgang Warsch, not Kramer, but both Wolfgangs are incredible designers!) SURVIVE is good for introducing new people to games, as it’s super light. Has some fun interactions, and it’s sometimes difficult to remember the point value of the meeples you’re rescuing! BUS is phenomenal. The whole time warp thing is so weird! 😂 But I really enjoy the way you almost auction the worker placement spaces, and you build a massive network but you don’t want it to force you to take stuff you don’t want! BUS is a lot lighter than other Splotter games, from what I know of them, but I haven’t played any others. STEPHENSON’S ROCKET didn’t work for me. I found it horridly unbalanced, and one move can completely destroy your strategy so you’re just biding your time, waiting for the game to end. Only played it once, but I wasn’t super keen on trying it again. Had a lot that I liked, but it just seemed broken and unpolished. Haven’t tried the others on your lists! As to games that I’d recommend from pre-2000: - ACQUIRE (1964). So many Hasbro games from this era don’t cut the mustard anymore, but this economic game completely holds up. Another thing that’s interesting is that the game doesn’t end until someone declares that they’ve met an end-game condition (they might be able to buy a few extra turns). - SET (1988). This game is supremely frustrating to certain players but I think it’s absolutely genius and I love it (perhaps because I am cash at it)! The only game I can think of that kids seem to be better at than adults. - QUARTO (1991). The perfect 10-minute abstract game for people who want that little bit of chess-like feeling without it being too much of a commitment. - MASTER LABYRINTH (1991). Such a unique mechanism of the board state changing every turn! And delightfully puzzly (definitely get the “Master” version; you’ll thank me later). - STICK’EM (1993). I don’t usually like vicious games and I’m not wowed by trick-taking games, so there’s no reason I should like this game as much as I do, but it’s so interesting, and it’s light enough that you can laugh off the inevitable mistakes in judgement you make! - 6 NIMMT! (1994). Another light card game! But a great game to play as you’re waiting for people to arrive to a game night, for example. One of the few games whose sweet spot is 7-8 players but you can play it with 3 or 4 and it works fine. How many of those have you tried? Were there any other honourable mentions that didn’t make your lists?
