today we start our journey at a swing bridge over the grand canal. the bridge is hydraulicly operated. we then arrive at primo coachworks just as a train passes through. we then went to Ballycon where we arrived just as a permeant way train was arriving. it seems that if we had arrived 1 Minnite late we would have missed the trains at primo coachworks and Ballycon. we then went up to the level crossing to see the ballast train being loaded. it is currently re ballasting the line to edenderry. this is a big relief to see as there were rumours that the line to edenderry would be closed permanently in July due to the temporary closure of edenderry. surely board na mona would not re ballast the line if it were about to close though. regardless all board na mona peat operations will stop presently November 2023
(update 2024)
the last peat train into edenderry ran in the 23-12-2024. flyash trains still run there evry few days though even these will stop very soon. the swing bridge is no longer opperational and had track on one side of it removed
