Gobsmacking Jack. Absolutely gobsmacking. To my ears the Way Huge was the clear stand out. Pure magic.

He makes the best drive pedals period. His overrated special is my favourite 808 style pedal too. He is so damn good at voicing an overdrive. Plus their whole manufacturing process seems to be rock solid. Great construction etc.

The Tones man. I havent heard such beautiful guitar tones in a long time. Perfect example of the strats versatile, from a silky smooth almost singing voice to a gritty groovy bark. Wonderful

I really like the tone of the MXR Sugar Drive and the Conspiracy Theory as well. They all sounds great though. I’ve owned a Klon KTR and a Sugar Drive for a boost to an already distorted amp, I prefer the Sugar Drive. Really brings out the pinch harmonics.

Honestly, the best thing about this demos is the chosen riff to demo each pedal. Lots of variations in the chords chosen which is a welcome thing when demoing circuits like the Klon.

Hey Jack killer demo... the “klon” circuit is one of my faves... the Ryra was my fave straight ahead klone... but the architect I need to look into further... notable missing IMO the Bondi Effects - Sick As... but I’m an Aussie😉

I have the RYRA, and honestly the ONLY other Klon style pedal that ever gets my attention is the Sick As, but I've never seen a shootout of the two. The RYRA is awesome though, so I'm happy sticking with it.

Thanks for this cool overview, Jack! Your playing is incredible, you really wheedled out the character of each of those pedals very well. My fav is the RYRA, because ... I own one :D A also concur with your statement that Klon(e)s stack better with other pedals than TSs. My secret sauce: Klon(e) into Bluesbreaker! My combination: RYRA Klone into Snouse BlackBox. These two pedal together are just ri-dic-ul-ous!

@augustusbetucius29312 жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that. I have six different klones, and it's one of the two or three best. The TC Electronics Zeus is a close second.
@benharris52102 жыл бұрын
@@augustusbetucius2931 Can't say i have tried the Zeus but will give it ago if i ever get the chance. I've had people compliment on my tone with the Way Huge, people are surprised when i tell them its quite a bit cheaper than the tumnus and archer lol.
@andyholmes34394 жыл бұрын
Love your demos. Would love to know other peoples thoughts about this but I think the Klon magic is as an overdrive and not as a clean boost. Sounds awesome as a cleanish boost, but I think that cheaper Klones get close to the Klon for the clean boost application. It's in the driven tones that you hear the magic of the Klon and this is where you can tell between the cheaper silicon diode options and the germanium based circuits. For a driven traditional overdriven Klon tone, I think the Way Huge Conspiracy Theory which is germanium based gets closer to the Klon for driven Klon tones at an affordable price point. But if you want cleanish boost, there are soo many good affordable options like the Soul Food, Sugar Drive and others. Just my two cents!
@starshineraiser67294 жыл бұрын
I’ve got the RYRA and it has the best midrange I’ve ever heard, very alive. I use it clean with a TS808 in front, with a Tele/Vox setup, amazing.

Tumnus adds a pleasing low end to the overall tone, which works really well with the single coils. RYRA for the win and simplicity.
@CarlyonProduction2 жыл бұрын
That low end is not gonna help in a band mix. The whole magic of a Klon is it pushes midrange into the amp and overdrives it. The Tumnus turns it into something very different IMO. For me, it’s the way huge.
@tyroneenglish83962 жыл бұрын
@@CarlyonProduction agreed with what you say. It would be remiss of me not to add that most reviews have the pedals compared outside of a mix. Which is why I believe the tumnus shows so well. I’ve just played and bought the way huge conspiracy - it’s fantastic
@CarlyonProduction2 жыл бұрын
@@tyroneenglish8396 EXACTLY! People are obsessed with 'fatter' and 'more low end' and maybe its because they play in their bedrooms a lot - nothing wrong with that. But once you are making records and playing in bands, fitting into the track is most important. Also all the added low end doesn't drive a hot amp well. One of the reasons the Klon is so good at driving an amp is precisely because of its tonal character. I only wish they made a regular sized conspiracy theory. I am not into the tiny pedal format.

I'm not sure whether I've just watched Jack with a few ads thrown in, or a very long ad with a few bits of Jack in there. As for klons, the only one I thought I liked was the Tumnus, though I've not tried one. Not sure it's the circuit design for me. I picked up a Soul Food a few years ago off all the hype when it came out, and can honestly say it's just about the worst pedal investment I've ever made - thankfully it wasn't at the price of some of the other options, particularly the original.
@davidluna32093 жыл бұрын
Twins obviously. The one describing the pedals (the nerd) isn’t even the person playing (the cool dude). Proof? Look how the nerd is wearing pants and the cool side is rocking some sock jean shorts.

The issue with the original I had (and the KTR after that) is that they can sound very fierce and have unforgiving transients, especially in clean amps. The best Klon style pedals in my view engineer that out.
