@Johnny Palumbo - but that’s not true. Trickerion collectors edition sold for $135 shipped, it’s now $175, missing some of the modules and linen bags and the resell for the non numbered incomplete sets is way below the kickstarter version. I wouldn’t call a 30% price bump small or “cheaper”.

I went all in on this one. I received my game and played episode 1 twice now. What a great game! I'm so glad I backed it. I hope you did back it in the end. If so I'm curious of your experience with it. I loved the fun challenge of so many interwoven ways to manipulate the game. The dino attacks are so tense. Breaches can be very strategically, but can cost you a lot. The artwork is gorgeous, and build quality very high. To anyone who didn't back this: When episode 3 & 4 come along in 2023 you'll get another chance. Don't miss it ;)

If you watch the Kickstarter video, there are using actual minis for some of the humans it looks like. Specifically when the Chief is talking in the video, you see a human mini with a green base and another with a red base. Not sure why they aren't shown in the description...

Seeing as how all but one of your pet peeves (the big box for 1, 2 and for 3,4) were addressed before the end of the campaign, did you end up backing this? I ended up grabbing it last minute. I was only hesitant by the game weight of it but after watching a tabletop playthrough, it seems pretty decent and not too much work to play if that makes sense. Also 22:58 are you backing Trickerion LOL?

Lol, no one else caught that apparently. Nor myself :) And I passed in the end....wasn't pulled in enough by the gameplay. That being said I very strongly considered backing last minute because it would hold it's value.

Your point of not having all standees upgraded to miniatures totally hit my heart hard. To me, I have the same OCD like you which cannot accept having a combination of standees + miniatures on the same board. However, it doesnt make sense going back for the standard version as well. Holding my call for now and will see how the project progresses.

I love Mindclash games and backed this deluxe version instantly. The dino's will add in numbers and types in future episodes. 2 types for Ep1, add another one for Ep2 and more for Ep3 and Ep4. If you are unsure. watch the several play throughs. Heavy Cardboard did a great job with Ep1 and Ep2. Giant box? this will be four unique games. 4 games in space vs 2 big boxes?

Great video! I read enough of the design diaries and watched play through videos before the campaign launched to know if the price was reasonable I was backing. Anachrony is my favorite heavy euro, my favorite worker placement, and this looks like a lot of the same, but also it's own thing. That said, I understand the gripes others might have (I'm not thrilled to mix standees with minis, which is why I'll probably use the leader standees even though they have minis for at least consistency there). While it's perhaps a reason not to back for some, I like the fact that (much like AEG with Dead Reckoning) there is an established track record to know that there will be another chance to back this, and thus no FOMO if you're on the fence. I do think it's a little overlooked that they're not selling half of something, but rather 2 games. The Episodes 1-4 seem very much to me like a series, like the West Kingdom trilogy from Garphill Games. They all share a lot of commonality, but they are separate games. Mindclash is taking things a step further (kinda their MO) by building a continuous thread that runs through all 4 games While a big box solution for all 4 would be nice, I don't think it's feasible looking at the amount of components and table space they consume of these prototypes. I think when the game arrives, we might be glad it's not one box for all 4, as that might exclude it from traveling to a game night, etc, and keep it from getting played more. But those are just guesses.

I think the only real concern about the episodic idea (imo) compared to something like the West Kingdom Trilogy, is all 4 episodes are dice placement games, with overlapping mechanics. I've not played them all, but the North Sea and West Kingdom Trilogies both seemed to vary more game to game. Though maybe these will vary more than they appear. All that said, I do fully agree that you'll be getting 2 full games (or 4 if you back Episodes 3 and 4 as well).

I'm in. Anachrony and Trickerion are two of my favorite games. With the dinosaur sculpts, it would be nice to have more variance, I did see where they said episodes 3&4 will have additional dinosaur sculpts, so there's that to look forward to at least. As for the soldier standees, I'm okay with the combo of miniatures and standees in Gloomhaven, so I think I'll be okay here. I also saw a comment where someone suggested using tokens for the soldiers instead of standees, and Mindclash replied that the idea sounded interesting, so who knows, maybe they are considering that. One thing you didn't mention but I think is cool, is that Episode 1 is just below Anachrony in heaviness, and each episode is supposed to get heavier.

I agree, I play Gloomhaven just fine and appreciate that although minis would be nice, they limit the possibilities, for example, of monster types. So I would rather have variety in the form of standees than boxes and boxes of minis. I love minis but I love replayability and variety way more...Middara is also another one that chosebthisbpath. I expect something similar will happen with Seventh cross because Level 99 throws everything AND the kitchen sink into their games, still delayed..but will surely back when it finally comes out. Argent has so much in it, everytime I play the room setup really drive the mood of the game session

I had a deluxe pledge on this and cancelled it. Primarily it was an exercise of forcing myself to not spend money on Kickstarter than anything else. I have so many projects I'm waiting for and they all look wonderful. I've accepted that there will continue to be wonderful looking projects and I will be fine letting some of them pass by, sacrifices on the altar of restraint and prudence. Other than budget and shelf space I think I would really like Perseverance, but for right now a project has to have a certain special quality about it before I can back it (being small also helps). I also want to point out that I am seeing a lot more of those neoprene dice trays. To me these are like the inexpensive promotional items you get in swag bags or trade fairs. I got the one from Reichbusters and I hated how floppy it was. When I saw the one being offered for a perk as part of why to back Perseverance I rolled my eyes at it. That was part of a gatekeeper for me actually. Anyways thanks for the video.

Gameplay, I love how dice drafting and limited spaces for each face make a game feel extremely cutthroat and interactive. But my main concern is how they deal with turn order. Quick spoiler the last player looks highly disadvantaged, and the benefit of one extra resource doesn’t look like it would cover that over the course of a game. If there are a limited number of unique faces, and they’re gone before they get to you, your choices can easily be cut in half. In episode 2, that gets even tighter as more spaces are face dependent. When I paused and thought through what was available and what I could do turn one and turn 4, that difference was stark. Of course who knows everything changes, it’s a kickstarter.

I was wondering if you played it already and if you like it? From reviews it really looks like a nice game, but there are heavy complaints that put me on defense. What's your opinion of it? My guess is that this one falls behind Trickerion and Anachrony, just based off of the whole storyline aspect. It is the only thing that makes me keep changing on mind on whether to back or pass. It is also hard enough getting any of my Mindclash games to the table given how dense they are.

Personally, I like minis for the player characters with standees for everything else. I enjoy painting a few minis and having them really stand out on the game board. So I had landed on the side of the base pledge. I do see your argument for investing in the deluxe pledge, though, especially once Mindclash hit the 4000 deluxe backers. Great video! I do agree that the mix on Standees (which I typically hate, though I'm fine with meeples), and minis really bothers me. Like you, it may be enough to push me away. As far as the Bog Box, while I understand not wanting 2 of them, you would essentially be getting 4 games with both, and they've said a box to hold all 4 may not even be structurally sound. My understanding is that this box will be close to the size of the Anachrony Infinity box, bit square instead of rectangular (for now). I'm not sure I want a box twice the size of Gloomhaven!!! lol. As for myself, I'm torn and will likely go in for 41 to guarantee the KS price while I consider it more. I love the theme and production, and enjoy worker placement (or dice placement). My only real fear is that it may be too heavy for us, and I would like to try Anachrony before backing this, but that will not be arriving for awhile.

Man that welcome to Jurassic Part gate opening box is the best. Now there’s few times when I’d say, hey make sure this game is for you and you can get it played. And this is one of them. This is an hour+ teach and a four hour game (with no ap, learning game Im leaning towards 5 hours, 6 of people take their time and need questions answered frequently) I quite like episode 1, but episode 2 basically has 50% more systems thrown on top and it’s about the peak of what I can keep in my head. Im sure the deluxe mini box will hold with this theme, company. I don’t think they can pull a trickerion and make your copy obsolete due to the mini heft precluding an all in one collector box. As a product, the one thing I don’t like is there will never be an expansion for these games if you like them, the dev time is going to all be in the next game. It’s not uncommon for kickstarter games, but there have been some great game fixing expansions to come for popular kickstarters, and you won’t see that here.

Great video, you really nailed the problems I have with this one. It seems very lacking, and I'm very surprised it's doing as well as it is. I just don't see the point in backing this one when it feels the deluxe is incomplete, and they have already said they are going to be doing a second Kickstarter in the future. So will that then have a giant box that holds all four episodes? Will that then have all the miniatures? At least then we'll have more ratings for it.

In the same boat as you. I have been following this game for months, hyped for it's release on Kickstarter. Then the day comes, and I am just totally let down by a.) only 1 of 5 resources is upgraded to something other than cardboard, b.) no soldier minis, even as an add on, and finally c.) with Trickerion, Anachrony and a shelf full of Lacerda games, when am I going to get this to the table? My wife likes the Lacerda games and Trickerion, but my regular group is already going between Root, Twilight Imperium and Kemet. The teach on this is going to be a bear, and if we only play once every 4 months, I am going to have to refresh the teach every time. Add to that, I already ordered Tekhenu which looks like a great dice drafting game, and Dead Reckoning launched on Kickstarter the same day. Add all that together, and I am thinking of just waiting till episodes 3 & 4 launch and see where the game is at that point.

I've been meaning to but this, because while I have played Mindclash games I don't own one. And this while BIG and being a mindclash game seemed like one I would get to the table more than like say a Anachrony. (people like dino's more than time jumps, unfortunately :p) However the different episodes kinda put me off, and i'm still not sure if I like the set-up but I"m willing to try. It looks great, and for my part great value. I don't mind those things you mentioned as a pet peeve. I wouldn't know where to store a box with all 4 episodes inside, let alone carry it :p

Mini’s mixed with standees can be ok (Gloomhaven) but it would need to be because they need many unique figures that can easily be differentiated. If that’s not the case I’d much rather meeples (like in Scythe)

Interestingly, I am worried about the deluxe version because of space. I don't care about the dinosaurs miniatures (for the reasons you mentioned) and I really liked the playthroughs. So if I'm thinking that I'll want to buy episodes 3 and 4...then I suddenly have 2 huge boxes to store! One thing you didn't mention is that for the price, you essentially are getting 2 games, which does make.the price look like a good deal. Thanks for the video!

They just painted themselves in a corner with two games, and not being a minis company. If the game is $135 with 3 Dino sculpts, imagine 8 additional sculpts and having to use and parse ring packs, and the effect 88 additional minis would have. We’d be talking $250+ $40 shipping.

While I love Anachrony and Trickerion (didn't get to play Cerebria yet), after some tough consideration I think I'm going to pass on this, despite the option of a very lucrative group-deal here in Germany (only barely upwards of ~100€ for the deluxe pledge). The theme just doesn't interest me at -all-. Plus I agree with your pet-peeve regarding a mix of standee and miniatures and split boxes. Keep up the good work! :)

Nice review. I think I'm going to pass on this one. I think I'll push this off til the 2nd kickstarter comes out someday and assume you can get this and the new stuff together. It does look cool. I finally got my wife to play a couple games in the past week from all the ones I have stacking up and games in the 2-3 difficulty out of 5 range kind of are giving me a headache absorbing the instructions, I don't think I/we are ready to tackle something near/over a 4.0/5.0 difficulty yet.

Admittedly skipped around in this video so not sure if you spoke to it but those deluxe squishy berries make me think of the sticky hands from quarter machines. If so just IMAGINE how well those will hold up over time as they're dirt magnets. Multiply by cheetos fingers and oof -- suddenly that's a glaring reason not to get the upgrade lol. Regardless, wasn't interested in this one anyway and thematically it's all over the place in a bad way. Easy pass for me.

Thanks for the insight Alex. I am gonna skip this one. Gotta keep my wallet in check, and even though David Turczi is one of the designers, and one I totally follow for his solo designs, I fear that there may be too many cooks in the design team for this one and am concerned the four episodes might end up feeling disjointed and forced together when they all finally come out. Just my feeling but hope I’m wrong for anyone that takes the plunge.

I backed just because it was Mindclash because of their success with Trikerion and Anachrony. I'm second guessing it because the two tiers don't make sense. The story is a turnoff. The standees are a turnoff. I have zero interest in an art book and it will go straight in the trash. The gameplay itself looks fun, but I feel like the market already has tons of great games and this one just isn't standing out that much as it needs to.

The game seems too much of a thematic and mechanics mess. Anachrony for its complexity just felt more thematic and intuitive.
