We all know Larry Harris, and this game wouldn't exist without him. That being said, I'd like to thank Tom Gale for all the work he's contributed to this product! I'd also love to hear the story of how these two met each other, and how this partnership in War Room came to be. Cheers!

Thank you for watching this First Look at War Room - 2nd Edition! We have a correction and an update. The game weighs 17, rather than 19 pounds. And, Tom from Nightingale Games is sending me a sheet of stickers to replace the ones that were damaged in transit. Thanks for watching! What question do you have?

How do you know if you have the 1st or 2nd edition? I’m guessing I have the first when I was a backer?
@BoardGameNation
@BoardGameNation Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure about the changes from the 1st to the 2nd editions. The Kickstarter mentioned in this video is for the second edition. If the copy you have is from before that, it has to be the first edition. I'm not sure that helps, but that's all I know. If you would like to hear from someone who would actually know the specifics, I suggest reaching out to Nightingale Games via their Facebook page. Good luck!

If you back the Kickstarter, the price is only $137. Granted, still a chunk for a game, but when you think about the number of hours of entertainment you get with a game like this, the math makes more sense. Up to you. Thanks for watching!

Looking into the game a bit more while watching this, once you strip away the trendy map, I don't see there being much that this does better that Axis and Allies can't do equally well with a house rule (or HBG's Global rules). That, and the awesome miniatures aside, there are just too many issues with this game. Chief of these being the painfully distorted map (it's actually worse than A&A 1914...and that's saying something), the lack of historical units over generic (7th Panzer, Yamato, or Ark Royal instead of "27"), but the greatest miss is the total lack of the technological/arms race. Will the Germans be able to take enough territory and resources in their first few turns to start mass producing Tiger tanks in 1940? Will T28s crush the Atlantic Wall with ease? Will the J7W Shinden replace the Zero? Once again, we'll never know.

Thanks for watching and for the really interesting comment! When I spoke with Larry Harris late last year, we spoke about this very issue. The balance between making a game that is easy to learn and fun to play vs. striving to create the most accurate historical recreation possible is always going to be a tricky one. Some are going to want a game that is engaging to play with the importance of the theme/skin a distant second. Other folks, like yourself, are looking for a deeper historical exploration. It is a tough balance. You can check our interview with Larry to see what he had to say about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJqqd5t_j9h_g8k It seems to me that the first thing to be given up in the quest for a good game is almost always map fidelity. Much of the action in any WWI or WWII game is going to be centered in Europe. Trying to make a map that is accurate while still allowing for the placement of units and clear game play is exceptionally difficult, nigh on impossible. The next thing that is often lost is the accuracy of the actual pieces. In my opinion, the stock pieces that come with any of the Axis and Allies games are far and away the best of any mass produced "guys on a map" war game. To go further would exponentially increase the cost of the game and, I think, reduce the access to the game for many. War Room seems to have gone a step further toward easy of play by moving to stackable units. However, I think this just as much about improving game play as it was trying to make the game look like the historical images of the generals plotting strategy around a giant map. Best as I can recall, I don't think the generals had mini tanks, fighters, or infantry men on the maps being pushed around with sticks. Perhaps that was the vision that Larry had in this game's creation. This was a great comment and I appreciate your clear depth of knowledge on the historic of the period. I am working on another interview with Larry Harris in the near future. I am taking questions from subscribers to ask him. Have you had a chance to subscribe? Do you have any questions you would like me to ask? Thanks again for watching!

@@BoardGameNation Personally, I would place technology over morale, or even natural resources. The technological race, particularly when it came to armor, is by far the "coolest" aspect of the war. Case in point, the Yamato. The sleekest, most beautiful warship ever to sail the seven seas. The question of a German player mass producing Panzer IVs versus building heavier Tigers and King Tigers. How the deployment of V1 and V2 rockets on the Eastern Front might have turned the tide at Moscow. Sadly, the only game I known of that allows various tanks within each country (that is not chit based) is the sadly discontinued Tide of Iron where (for example) the Germans can deploy Panzer III, Panzer IV, Hetzers, Stug IIIs, Tigers, and King Tigers as opposed to your A&A/Memoir 44s where it's sadly reduced to "tank". I also feel that there are a lot of interesting "what if" questions this doesn't allow for, as it starts "mid war" essentially. Like what if Japan landed troops and captured Hawaii rather than being satisfied with the sinking of a few ships? What if Germany didn't break the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact? I'm also think the issue of the map could have been more easily addressed with a more squarish map that allowed South America and Africa to be accurately proportioned without affecting North America, Europe, or Asia as opposed to the long, rectangular boards of Axis and Allies. And Finland. How do they always forget Finland?! So as far as actual questions, I don't know if I really can offer anything other than observations on what we're missing out on focussing on the economics over the technological advancement of warfare.
