Wama for me i loved boarding because my biological mum would bond with me by visiting me after not seeing her my whole nursery. I recall crying so deeply the first time i saw her in P1 in that the teachers asked her what was wrong. They empathised with her when they realised my dad had barred her from seeing us. I loved boarding because i would escape the toxicity at home but ofcourse im cognisant of the trauma i hve to unpack because of my childhood. Thanks for the show and ohh! My mum was called Rachel and she passed in 2010 and im glad bording school gave me some time with her.

I went to boarding school when I was 9 years all through till I was 18. As I reflect on my experience while in the boarding school, I realize that I missed out on bonding with my family. It was also difficult to maintain meaningful friendships in the neighborhood where we lived because I rarely got to see my peers in the short school holidays that were swamped with homework. Boarding school has you surviving and parenting yourself, instead of just being the child you were meant to be. Lots of appreciation from Nairobi.

You have run this show at such a perfect time for me Dr. Evas& Rachael. I am so grateful for this because I have been struggling with the idea of sending my now 13year old son to boarding school. For almost all the reasons u have listed...I had them running at the back of my mind and NOW I can make a firm and unshakeable decision that my son doesn't need to go to boarding school to "mature up". I can't thank you enough Dr.Evas & Rachael. Your shows have been a blessing to us and may you too be blessed immensely ❤❤

Makes a lot of sense. Having gone to boarding school early, I see some thick skin and serious attachment and trust issues in me. Thank you for the insight Dr Evas

Am so passionate about this topic...I do agree with 98% of this infor shared: Since boarding schools are inevitable then schools should be more open to having parents come in to bond more coz in as much as parents maybe intentional over the holidays, the holidays are short....

Some schools keep children like prisoners as if the parents didn’t pay fees 😊. Even when you go to check on them, you’re not allowed to see them

I thin for me the only advantage I got from boarding school was i became grounded in faith. Its a rare advantage but I think if i had not gone to boarding and had older girls as mentors in the faith, I do not think I would have the foundation of faith since my entire family was not born again at the time till much much later.

In primary we refused to go to boarding school until P6 third term when we were forced. Yet the school was near home and we would afford to go early and leave late. Had been so active in most clubs and was aware of my potential. In secondary, good schools were strictly boarding. I remember losing myself the moment i stepped in S1. Looking at the gates and no way of moving out to socialise. I hated it. I didn't perform well. At campus, i was in somehow a home environment since it was not restricted. I regulated myself, read and excelled. I excelled. I think I will not take my children to boarding school because building my character again has been such a struggle. Dr. Evas is right about home being the best place for character development.

There’s so much anger in the world today. I believe this is as a result of anger that devein childhood probably due to feelings of rejection by parents. This topic is so timely and I wish more parents would know this.

Very important information. Thank you Dr. Evas and Racheal. I went to boarding school in S.1 buy I always cried on the way to school because I hated leaving my parents behind. I hated not being with my siblings who were in another school. Since I have literally just started the schooling journey for my kids, no boarding until maybe uni. The school was nice but it couldn't compare to my parents. I am so cautious of the parent child bond, I don't want to be cut off. It's a real struggle though for parents. That's the reality. One parent told me that they have a small living space so taking their kids to boarding gives them some privacy and breathing room as a couple

I will never forget my welcome to boarding school life when i was 9. All the biscuits in the school were burned up in the rubbish pit. We spent 2 days drinking all the quencher in the school. Like they combined all brands, diluted them and we had to drink. P1-P7. I can still see the burning and burned biscuits, the weeping, the glances at the rubbish pit, every evening as we went for prayers. Dont ask me about the other traumatic events. I am so determined never to take my children to boarding school to the point of choosing homeschool. Agree 97% with the show. The 3% is for parents whose hands are genuinely tied or if God forbid, i die early and my children are coerced into boarding life 😢

Modern day flexi boarding schools are different from the traditional strict boarding schools
@florenceojowa7706
@florenceojowa7706 3 ай бұрын
Regardless of how good these modern schools are, still the children miss what Dr Evas mentioned earlier; particularly on the bonding with parents as well as character formation at the formation stage in a child’s early life. Nothing can compare with the home environment.

Thank you for this conversation. I was one of those "not made for bordering sch" kidd n my mum thought it's just the norm. I troubled her alot by falling sick when I was in sch. But physically I was fine. However when I got to sch I actually was sick. With high fever,vomiting, all the signs of illness. When I came home I was ok n happier. She took me out just becz the logistics of picking me up every week was getting high. I did thrive though in day school n I think it saved my life becz I tried to commit Suicide one day in bording. I took her blood pressure pills with me n I was going to end it all. Looking back I didn't deserve that but our parents didn't have these kind of resources now to reason. I will do better ❤
