from being in a boarding school myself, you shouldn't put your stuff in the shower (unless there are multiple, shelfs) for me there weren't I was in the same situation as you, were it was me and my roommate (who I didn't know before), so I just moved my shower stuff in the bathroom when I would shower. (obviously if there are multiple shelfs thats different but for me their was only one shelf in the shower).
