Dayvan Cowboy is Boards of Canada's first official video.
Using reassembled documentary footage, the video to Dayvan Cowboy translates the power and atmosphere of Boards Of Canada's music into a dreamlike, imaginary journey from space, into the sea and to the shore, in one continuous sequence.

Heard this track for the first time when I was driving in the middle of the Kakadu National Park in Australia. The part around 1:44 kicked in as I was crossing the bridge over the South Alligator River. I turned my head and I saw the most unreal sunset, all purple, pink and crimson, reflected in the waters of the river. I had to stop the car. get out, walk and somehow let the experience sink in, as I felt completely overwhelmed by the music. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

There’s nothing in the world quite like kakadu National park. I was lucky to go on an eco tour with Bruce from Armidale and I swear to god I was listening to this same exact song while watching the sun rise. Man, good times indeed

Had a similar experience with a different song, where things matched up perfectly: I was listening to the Gorillaz song Lake Zurich on a plane and it was the first plane I had been on in roughly eight years, so I was more than a little nervous. Anyway, as the song is building up at the beginning, the plane starts down the tarmac, going faster and faster, when suddenly, as the song breaks, we take off. Synced fucking perfectly I swear to God. As someone who loves Baby Driver, I was so glad to have experienced that.

When I was a child, my mother introduced me to music of all kinds at a very early age. When she was pregnant she listened a lot to Board of Canada. Years later, when I was 6 or 7 years old, my mother moved house and found some Board of Canada CDs. When I listened to them I had this feeling that I had never forgotten the music of Board of Canada and that it was part of me. This sound is a perfect example of that. I'm nearly 19 and I'm grateful. Thanks to my mother and Board of Canada for existing.

Awesome Mother! ❤ So exactly what you explain has been proven in scientific studies. Starting around the age of 3 children have been proven to show an affinity to certain music which was played when they were in the womb(specifically "sweeter" melodies and rhythms which tend to occur in classical music but also this song). I read this in the book This Is Your Brain On Music, there is also a bunch of documentaries on the book by the same name. To be clear I am not talking about any IQ increase but strictly that children positively identify and trend towards these songs.

Consider yourself lucky, I've only discovered this music act in my late teens based on public recommendations but I already dig their style. Reminds me of a certain artist I used to listen back in middle school. Who also specializes in producing melodic & lo-fi (mostly instrumental) electronic music

This cool video boys and girls is historic footage of Col Joe Kittinger's (USAF) record setting parachute jump from space during Project Excelsior, a program to establish very high altitude emergency bailout procedures for astronauts. This was 1960, the altitude- 102,800'! (about 19 miles high). He free fell for 4 1/2 minutes! down to 18,000' where he deployed his chute. He was the fastest man alive without propulsion at 614 mph! He's still around to this day. An American Hero. I couldn't think of a better tune than this hit from BOC for this video. Thanks for posting...and thanks BOC for sharing your incredible creativity!

Such a beautifully expressed envisioned landscape of memory, always, or rather ceaselessly, the mystical truth emerges with sensitive hearts remembering all what may have lasted forever, somewhere inside an outward reflection, an endless mystery; and though, there we find greater purity of knowing, of sacred recall, that indeed the love that you are has embraced the journey of self discovery lifetime after lifetime .. . . ....

this sound pattern with following transition from 3:26 to 3:40 is so beautiful and emotional. I like that we are very smoothly and needlessly going to the climax, which turning into a sparkling, life-asserting anthem with a certain mixture of melancholy and sorrow. one of the best tracks from BoC.

Til this day I haven't found a song that so consistently made me cry at the chorus. Not in sadness. Not in joy. But in vulnerabiliy. It makes me feel like i'm in the womb and am free to finally let out any bottled up emotions from the woes of life and release it without judgement. I'm a pretty stoic dude who keeps to themselves, but this just hits me right in the feels harder than any sad song could (except Elliot Smith)

BoC’s music is the definition of nostalgia, which is intentional. Tracks like this make you reflect and think back to more simple and carefree times as a kid, happy times. Their music is very emotive and is one of the reasons I adore it so much. I’ll never stop listening to BoC.

ChatGPT sent me here, So here is a poem by CHATGPT!!! "Dayvan Cowboy," a song of soaring heights A journey into the skies and beyond our sights With Boards of Canada's ethereal sound We're lifted up, and then we're found The video begins, a man with a balloon Floating up to where the atmosphere meets the moon A peaceful ascent, a journey of serenity As we're drawn into this breathtaking entity Higher and higher, he climbs up above The world below us, a canvas of love As the beat drops in, the man reaches the edge And jumps off, freefalling like he's on a ledge The music swells, the beat pulsing strong As he tumbles and twists, it all seems so wrong But then he opens his chute, and he glides As the song reaches its final strides "Dayvan Cowboy," a song that takes us high A journey through the skies, where we can touch the sky With Boards of Canada, we're lifted up And we can't help but feel like we're enough So let us listen, let us be inspired By this song and video, which leave us feeling wired For in "Dayvan Cowboy," we find a sense of awe A journey into the skies, a trip without a flaw.

At 1:44... you feel the dreamy, yet powerful voice of a hard-body Gibson, amped with sultry reverb and waves of tremolo... that captures your imagination.

This song reminds me of a friend I have to let go of right now. I’ve been really close friends with someone for 12 years now as a 24 year old. It’s really hard for me because I saved him from being addicted to cigarettes, and now he’s going down another bad path. It pains me to see it because he is such a loving person but his soul is lost and he is stuck in delusion. This is to all the good times we’ve had. He truly is the Dayvan Cowboy of my life. I’m gonna miss you dude 😭😭😭
