I remember driving 3,000 miles from one end of U.S. to another and while passing through South Dakota and Montana (2:40 AM) - this song came on, while doing 75 mph on 80. The only light that shined was the full Moon, stars and my head lights. If anyone has driven on I-90 through SD or MT, at night... you know how dark it gets out there! But that moment was special for me. Just cruising alone, with God-like snowy Mountains beside me, as I drove. The song made me feel scared but more like an "excited fear" but also a very majestic fear, as if I am bowing down to this Earth.This Universe. Now because of that, I have an emotional-connection to this seven minute song 🥰

You're not alone in this feeling. I think that everyone has experienced something like this and deals with it in their own way. No matter how insignificant we all are compared to the seemingly endless expanse of the universe, there's always meaning to be found in our lives. Some examples that come to mind: creating something beautiful/useful, building healthy and supportive relationships with awesome people, meeting new interesting people, learning something exciting, getting through challenges and hardships, growing as a person, recognising the beautiful chaotic complexity of the universe, discovering order in parts of the chaos, being present. If it's any consolation, no matter how small you feel, you still mean the world to the people who love you.

Talent has nothing to do with it. Its a spiritual connection to nature. People like Beyonce and Adele have talent but lack a spiritual connection to nature."Talent" is a word pushed by the music industry to sucker people in to something that has a lesser connection to sell. It doesn't apply here. And we don't need more of this...that's what makes 'this' special. Very special.
@ramyaccad2637 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should open your dictionary. Talent is "the possession of natural aptitude or skill by people". Beyonce and Adele are indeed talented just like Boards of Canada. Who are you to talk about "spiritual connection to nature"? Other people listening to Adele or Beyonce might find a similar spiritual connection to nature. I personally think Beyonce's and Adele's music is shit but that's only my point of view (based on my taste). Boards of Canada are able to stimulate senses in me just like Beyonce is able to stimulate senses in someone else. No need to go all Plato on the word Talent.

Ramy Accad Who am I? I am someone with five thumbs up from people who can relate and have taste, and you without any. That's fact, not theory, yours or mines. But I am sure Beyonce and Adele would appreciate your words. The Boards of Canada are just too cool.

I don't think you understand where I'm coming from. I'm not talking about being sad. I'm talking about discovering something so beautiful that it makes me feel like life is already lived, like I have achieved the highest level of happiness and that life is no longer worth living because of this. But I suppose it is kind of a sad feeling at the same time.

Probably in my top 5 all time BoC tracks. I remember this was playing on their Warp website back in the early 2000s. I was so happy to find this song after all these years.

Some people have told me this song induces anxiety in themselves. There is a certain beauty beneath all the noise. It's chilling, spiritual, relentless. A wall of sound. It sends chills up my spine and invokes amazing emotions of love, loss, longing, peace, tranquility. Boards of Canada has been my favorite band for 16 years now. They perfectly fit within my own being. They are a part of me, a part of who I am. A part of my soul. They are kind, loving, peaceful and beautiful.

found what this track sampled: it was a pbs ident, i think in the late 1990s they had an ident with a person (usually a woman) holding a pbs logo. the background vocals sampled it, but they pitched, slowed, and eq'd it.

You don't know me, but hello anyway. It's been 10 years since you commented and I'd just like to inform you that it takes 8 years for a human body to replace every cell in this period of time. Meaning you are a different person now (literally). If you are still active, I'd just like to inform you that he existed once. That 'he' is you 9 years ago. Listening to this song and deciding to make this comment. I know this might be weird or you might not think much of it, but remember your past self. No one else knows or thinks that YOU once wrote this. I'm sure you'd like to remember your emotional moment 10 years from now when the present you won't exist anymore.
