The video for Dayvan Cowboy was an official video. But, I get what you're saying. They actually filmed some of the footage used in this themselves. Apparently they took a trip through the U.S. at some point prior to either the making.or the release of Tomorrow's Harvest. Some of the footage looks like it was taken near "The Mother Road" or historic rt. 66.

I remember seeing disappointed reviews, which I'm so disappointed in myself for letting that color my first listen-through when it came in the mail. Today, I've listened through it dozens of times and it contains many of my favorite BoC tracks. I don't think music like this can be accurately connected with via only one listen through. And it certainly can't be reviewed by any objective means since its sound can mean so many different things to people. I've learned from that mistake.

I am so grateful for what we do have, though I can't help but be deeply saddened that there hasn't been more from them. Absolutely phenomenal and horribly underrated. I feel the brothers BoC have always lovingly embraced the psychoactive properties of sound. That trademark goes all the way back to Twoism. What keeps me a fan is this constant exploration into the far outposts of human existence where familiarity meets the unknown. They slow you down, like meditation, you start shutting off and then suddenly, you'll hear a wall of complexity just below the surface. Their music is comforting yet deeply troubling, these two worlds somehow found a way to harmonize together through the enigmatic Marcus and Michael. What a joy to have art like this in modern music.

Evan J I suggest you to check the following track out: Cathode - While Making Other Plans While at that, also check: Cathode - Basic Assumption Cathode - Be Red or Yellow and Cathode - Dream Feeder. Very powerful, I believe in a certain sense Cathode even surpasses BoC. I think he understands psychoactive properties of the sound very well, his music evokes similar feelings to BoC but at the same time he is not imitating. That immersion, chest tightness, hopelessness mixed with apathy, that feeling when you coped, accepted your fate, yourself, yes, residue remained, but you embraced it and moved on.. What are your thoughts?

It's fascinating revisiting this video almost 10 years later. In 2013 I was deep into BoC and this was just another great track for me. This music video touches you in a way that others don't. You look at these abandoned buildings and houses and each one of them has a story that was buried in time. These were places someone at one point called home, and the rest of us can only wonder who was once there and what kind of life they lived before these places became a derelict. Meanwhile, the ending is seemingly bright and surreal, like an ascension into Heaven, as if the whole message is that nothing we build here will last forever and it's only the human spirit that carries on.

There's a term for people with this new age nihilism.. a doomer. It is an ailment born of the age of reason. Logic is the same as belief when it gives you information about something that satisfies you into either purpose or no-purpose. Information with the belief that you have understood the world thru it's ends, from a reasonable standpoint only, it is enough. But what satisfies only the intellect leaves the emotional side of you empty and vice versa.. how can you not see that balance is key here. Harmony creates beauty in the meaningless moments of life. They can be lived fully, lived gracefully as they are, as you are. Beyond ur conditioning try to see the world. No information or memory or imagination. Just see it as it is. If you can do this your nihilism and beliefs will be transcended by the Reality, Truth is not meaningless nor does it have any meaning, it is beyond your concepts, it is who you are and you need to find out just that, the answer to who you are becomes your own end in itself, a new beginning in the end of egoic identity. Enter the void you worship and see what this void truly is you percieve as so bleak and meaningless

It's something much more mechanical, sinister, foreboding and depressing. Which is the point. It's a warning about where the world is heading, the absolute most bleak outcome. I understand not liking it based on personal preference with the sound choices, but this deserves to be up there with the rest of the bands albums. The intricacy, thought and emotion that Boards of Canada is known for is still present, but this time it has a new face. An entirely new feel. And it's not like the band is known for having one consistent sound. In a Beautiful Place Out in The Country sounds nothing like Geogaddi. Random 35 Tracks Tape doesnt sound all that much like The Campfire Headphase. It's just a new style for the duo and for me personally it works spectacularly, but I still respect your opinion.

I absolutely love the scenery in this music video, it really captures the essence of Tomorrow's Harvest. Everytime I listen to any song from this album I always feel like I'm driving by a dessert or I'm being chased by something in a weird and abandoned version of New York. Even before I got in to BOC, I always liked that feeling of being alone in a completely desolate place. Everytime my family and I are going on a trip, we always pass by these empty areas where there are just destroyed cars, tumbleweeds, and random abandoned houses (kind of like this video) and the whole time whilst looking at these places I just imagine myself being there all alone, just me and my thoughts, just enjoying life for once. This is why i love Tomorrow's Harvest and why it's my favorite album of the bunch.

I was reading an interview about the recording and conception for the album Tomorrows Harvest, and I remember them saying it was about an "inevitable stage that lies in front of us." Now I read all these news articles about NASA predicting societies collapse in the next couple of decades, and I'm beginning to think that this is what the album is about. Perhaps I'm looking into it too much, but if it happens, this will be my apocalypse soundtrack.

Whether or not it will happen is still conjecture. It is rare (I feel) in the post-industrial world for humanity not to have an apocalyptic view into their own horizon. The current as I see in what medias I've payed attention to for decades would support that. Many believe that there is some undercurrent of power influencing destiny into an inevitable suffering of the many. As someone who has witnessed a different sort of "power," I feel that fear only breeds more fear. Fear only gives energy to people who are even more afraid; enough so to feel that the only way to function is to attempt to "control" their surroundings from below the waist. I personally feel that BoC is interpreting that fear and more broadly, interpreting the paradigm shift we are all now in. Destination unknown yet clearly out of our archaic infancy one way or another. What you see in the desert is a shedding of skin and what lies ahead could be a new enlightenment. The most powerful moment for me is when the national geographic border flashes and the horizon becomes "abstractly" vertical. In my view, this is where we begin to understand our own history and what we truly are. We begin to ourselves as one and looking our creators (the stars) as though we were looking in the mirror. This is my interpretation for what it is worth.

They also clarified that it wasn't necessarily apocalyptic and that in some ways the changes will be positive. I think part of what they're hinting at is that people will have to learn to live with the world on a scale and in a way that is sustainable. That ultimately we will be forced to do so, that that is the inevitably that they speak of. People will have to relearn how to grow their own food, home aquaculture, raising small animals. We will all have to learn to work together if we want to survive. There is still so much positive potential in people. Just think if instead of bickering with other countries we learned to work together what we could accomplish.

She grasps the sand but it’s inevitable and it slips through her fingers. Throughout my life, I have always had a need to take what was in my head and turn it into reality. I have used many mediums since my childhood to do just that. Drawings, comics, nick nacks created from junk and hardware, music, electronics, movies and so on. I wanted to be everything. I wanted to be an artist, animator, musician, film director, all at the same time. Years have passed and interests have come and gone, but one medium still remains at my peak of interest, and that is video games. This seeming mix of all mediums combined into a single one. This, "final frontier" of the human experience. For these past couple of years, I have strove to become a game developer. I have tinkered in various game engines, pondered in deep thought of game concepts and game mechanics, stories, and ideas. I am now working in a small indie dev team, trying to achieve...something. We may be small and inexperienced, but we will get somewhere. As for me, what I am wanting to achieve is something I have to find out myself. I'm a descent artist at heart, I'm terrible at programming and I have hard times wrapping my head around it. I feel I'm not as much as an experienced gamer compared to everyone else, I have a huge lack of self esteem and respect for myself and my work. There are people my age right here, right now, doing something great. This industry is huge, its competitive, any many are wanting to tap into it. I may be flawed, but I will not stop to strive for what I want to do. Someday, I will make the games I want to make, tell the stories I want to tell, give the messages to those out there, and give an experience to many and all. And in one of those games, I want this song in it. Mark my words, when I get there, I will fly myself to Scotland, or where ever they may live, and ask the Sandison Brothers personally, if I can use their song. I. Will. Have this song in the credit sequence of one of my dream games, if not my best work. Don't view me as someone with a huge ego, but someone who just simply wants to take what is in their head, and make it happen.

As long as I am working towards my goals, in any fashion, I am doing more than many dreamers ever do, even if I find out I am unable, somehow, to achieve them as originally conceived. I don;t care so much if what results is different from the attempted, as all contributes to the whole. Many times these are the very limitations that help define the message or voice of the piece. Happy accidents, so to speak. I am thrilled by being involved with creativity in any capacity and love the process, the learning that comes from doing, from making a thing of beauty or devotion. So, even though I don't game, I am excited for you and your future efforts. Creative visualization and perseverance are key. Remember, faith can work miracles! See Matthew 21:21-22. Sounds more like someone who is trying to do the great things you imagine and is willing to share your dream with others, both with the work aspect and the world in general. Even if that thing is just the higher thought part of your own brain, or the great works of the masters from which we have inherited templates of art and technique, IT is not about the personal ego, in the end. Talent must always reckon with, one way or another, the temptation to congratulate itself on all IT has done, but this will lead, inevitably to stagnation and mechanical, less inspired and inspiring creations. I find it is always advisable to monitor one's motivations as you go, which is something you appear to be about. Best wishes and my 'faith power' now includes your mission...I believe we can! Anyway, 'give an experience to many and all.' my brother! That is my goal, too, to find a way to reach others with my art, with my life and what I have learned or witnessed as inspirational to me, or for others I have known, loved and respected. How I got through some of the rough patches, and how to utilize the same, and what the heck a person might feel about them before, during and after. Or, how to trick yourself into believing the 'impossible' is as simple as breathing in and out, then manifesting that for/in/to reality. And, I feel certain that, despite a similar incorrect poor self-assessment of my work and it's 'worth', which is also a form of ego,( I am the ONE who isn't good enough, I have an embarrassment about MY product or work, instead of letting the selfless genius, inherent to living outside such limiting mental constructs, do it's thing) others could benefit from my take on the World and it's mysteries. I remember playing outside our house as a kid during summer time. We lived on the outskirts of town, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. Once in a while you would hear a droning sound from people mowing their lawns and meadows in the evening. I found out about BOC in 07 and have loved them dearly since. This album came out in my last year of high school (I'm 20 now) and I remember being on 4chan stalking all the threads on /mu/ hyping up Tomorrows Harvest. I honestly was gonna shit my pants, it was such an exciting time with all the ARG elements they included to hype the release. Just the fact that they were gone for so long and then suddenly dropped all these weird messages about tomorrows harvest. Anyways, I went on my graduation trip to Cuba a month later, and I downloaded it onto my phone. Every time I listen to Tomorrows Harvest I get such nostalgia of my trip, but also all the memories and experiences I shared with my peers that year. Not just that, but all their albums, especially Geogaddi and Campfire headphase, the music all has such strong emotional connections to me, I get flooded with memories and good feelings going back to seventh grade when I first found out about them. I got my BOC logo tattoo last year with a moment of clarity quote and am super excited to get the Hexagon design tattoo'd eventually :D They are actually amazing.

As i can say from my perspective, this music applies to me because i like the process of thinking and be reflective about myself. It has more to do with my personality and the way i communicate and handle emotions. Music from artists like BoC support this kind of personality by creating the right environment. Missing lyrics let you decide what you make out of a song and what kind of meaning lays within it. A famous quote may say that a picture tells more than a thousand words, but so does sound!

Proud to be Scottish listening to this! The Canada reference put me off the trail for ages, I just assumed they were Canadian after loving the couple of album of theirs I'd heard. Stunned and so happy when I found out they were Scottish too. Literally the best purveyors of this kind of music for me personally. So much of their music taps into that strange hazy summer memories vibe, like of a past life (when I lived in the 60's ;), in a way nothing else I've ever heard has quite managed in the way they do. I got to know BoC purely by chance through internet contacts and listened to the music in a very difficult time for me. Even after almost 20 years, the music still has the same effect as back then, but also stirs up memories.
