Rothstein was actually ahead of the curve with this deal. The D’Alessio brothers signed a 500K lifetime insurance policy and Nucky wanted them all dead. Rothstein received 2 million and gave one million to Nucky, keeping a million for himself and the cherry on top, he avoided being indicted. Genius.

Jimmy was always a footman, never a general. He never could make out in terms of strategies. He was prone to violent outbursts, always had to speak his mind - he could never play the long-haul game, which has led to his untimely demise. Imagine how far he could've gone with Richard and Nucky on his side. They could've probably put all rival gangs in the ground or behind bars and control all of organised crime at that time.

In the previous episode Harrow is the one that suggested a way to draw out the D'Alessio brothers would be to go to their extended family in Philidelphia and kill them. Richard goes "I'll kill the mother...hm...and the sisters and the dentist (Their brother). That would make them stick their heads up." and Jimmy gives him an almost "dude wtf" look as if that's going too far.

Especially since there was other "bad guys" around like Gyp Rosetti, Arnold Rothstein, Richard Harrow, Al Capone, Jimmy Darmody, Big Jim Colosimo, Chalky White and other who were way worse than Nucky. Like Gus Fring, Nucky was a Businessman, a deadly one, Who wasn't afraid of getting his own hands dirty, a good example is when he put 2 bullets thru Jimmy head.....

I dont know if people realize but Rothstein was a criminal pioneer in many vices and periods of time in his life. Check out his bio book. I think at one point he had a bail bonds business and long standing ties with the lawyers and judges on his clients cases. So his criminal clients had security from persecution. For a premium of course. Also he had very strong ties to tammany hall which was the dominant political party at that point in time.
