@In the name of scientific progress you’re right the bullies should be allowed to bully and people should all respond the same way, “dealing with it”
@AveSicarius2 жыл бұрын
@In the name of scientific progress Yeah that's more an issue with allowing easy access to firearms. Kids will lash out if they are bullied, everyone has a breaking point, and if they have easy access to a lethal weapon, well, you made that kids life hell, now he's going to end it, along with yours. It's a good idea to not act like that towards other people, even just for your own good, and especially so if you live in a country that is insane enough to give those people military grade weaponry to play around with.
@AveSicarius2 жыл бұрын
@@1stwonder788 Some people say "kids will be kids", well kids can be spiteful and cruel, and this is entirely the parents fault for their terrible social skills and lack of empathy. A bully is more an indication of shitty parents than anything else, and it's those parents who will probably tell others to just "deal with it". There should be punitive measures for the bullies involved, I personally was bullied pretty extensively and zero punishment was levied at them and I know this is the case for many other's as well. That's what drives people to breaking point, unrelenting torment with no reprieve because nobody cares which is pretty fucked up (and exactly why some kids snap and just go crazy on their tormenters). But I'd say punishing the parents is equally as important, humiliate them and make them, and everyone around them, understand that they are awful at raising their children, which is why their kids are so monstrous. Teachers do actually let it happen in most schools, as do other students, so this is the only defense some people have, though many take it too far (e.g. when I was at secondary school a friend of mine beat a bully round the head with a tennis racket until he was pretty messed up, whilst another bully got his head repeatedly slammed into a wall by the bullied kids brother). The sad thing is, even school shootings, which show that some kids will lash out with incredible violence given the chance, haven't changed the behaviour of many bullies. It's more a lesson about not letting people have easy access to firearms, but you'd think parents would tell their kids mot to bully others in fear this could happen to them too.
@DirtyDan12 жыл бұрын
@@AveSicarius what military grade weaponry? and also, why are people like you ok with the police and military having guns, but not the people they might turn against?
@AveSicarius2 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyDan1 I mean all the firearms available in the US were either developed for military use and later became commercially available, or are variants derived from military weaponry, and could easily be used by a military force. I'm also not ok with that, and think collective disarmament is really the only rational option. But the police and armed forces are citizen's like any other, if your country is in a situation where law enforcement or the military is turning on the general population you have major issues, and the population being armed isn't going to change that in the least. Not only that but we have absolutely no record of such a thing happening in the developed nation's where gun's are not legal. I have no issue with responsible professionals who are heavily vetted having firearms the use of which is highly regulated, I lived in the Netherlands for several years, and never once saw an officer draw their weapon, I've only ever heard of them using it very, very rarely due to the incredibly stringent regulation around it. Meanwhile in the US, where the population is overwhelmingly armed, violence by law enforcement is high, and aimed at various demographics who are armed, yet the general population doesn't seem to do anything about what oft seems like a burgeoning police state. So clearly, that argument is completely invalid in a sane society.

Van Alden was the best character in this series hands down, which says a lot, since this show was full of great characters. he screws up his own life and then just sort of bounces from one frying pan to the next, his ass is always close to the fire, but his calm, polite and almost autistic social presence carries him through almost every time. My favorite scene is when he's being grilled by Capone. he tries to break the tension with "I get the feeling my boss doesn't like me.", then when that fails and he realizes he's screwed, he immediately reads the room, reads Capone, and uses his last words to talk his way out of it using Capone's obsessions with honoring the right of demesne, and with respect/fealty, against him.

He was so stilted and awkward most of the time, but at his core he was a fantastic detective. He had a sense for people and could be shockingly perceptive. Where did the guys behind him go? Did they run around the side and go into that room with everyone else? Or did they dip out the back door?

This may have been the funniest thing I have ever seen. I’ve never laughed as uncontrollably or as hard as I did while watching this. Michael Shannon is such a great actor and so likable he makes everything hilarious and great regardless of how horrible it is
