@@WhiteBoyizFresh it says to render assistance if you can do so safely. Maybe that situation no problem for that guy no way to tell. In some people watching other people die is very unpleasant. I've observed, but won't try to psychoanalyize, people take great risk to themselves assisting others in distress, some pretend to not see it and some wave and promise to call someone. Technically you can't trim an inboard bow up with trim tabs. Yes, trim tabs go up and down, but when a trim tab iback in. Fully "up" position it is actually neutral and the boat is running as if no tabs. Trim tabs impact is only to bring the bow down on a boat. Everything else the boat itself does based on the hull. The captain had the tabs in a negative state and gave the boat throttle to raise the bow. A good job (bad at first spearing a wave in following seas) getting back in.

Without knowing the integrity of the hull old or new and assuming it’s all good I’d say it had design flaws in bulkhead and cap stiffness …There’s no way a sandbar could have done damage like that ( on top ) …the flare of the bow was heavily loaded when he stuffed it …seemingly it couldn’t take the pressure….I’ve seen a lot of bows been stuffed ( including myself ) and no damage to hull, bow whatsoever…with depicts a well thought out hull design…people make mistakes and no one wants to have a failure by design….if they were rotted wood …no common sense design is going to prevent this ….Safe Boating People 👍🏼

Age may or may not have been the issue. Boats are built with differing thickness in the hull.. freeboard is normally much thinner than other places. This boat speared a wave at speed (looks over 25 knots) The way that hull flares and scoops to push water out puts a LOT of force on that area. Equivalent to a car at 30 hitting a wall..

That’s a quality control issue. The boats in that category are nicknamed battle wagons for a reason. They are designed to be ran hard on the roughest of weather days. So these are shiplap hulls- glass over wood. A lot of them are pretty old. It’s not weird to see a boat from the 70s or 80s . If I were to guess at some point water made it into the front end of that boat and rotted the core up front. Could be something as simple as a bad instal on cleat bolts. But that’s not a situation in which that boat should have failed. Those are the situations they’re designed for.

The boat that stuffed wasn't full throttle. He was riding the back of a wave, just as he should've been. All he could see was some delamination and pulpit damage, not the wound itself because of the flare. I assume the first boat that came about radio'd him to put the gas down, bow right up, and do not stop...coz he could see the bow damage. Good work. Bad stuffing but perhaps it is shallow and the bow also struck ?? No idea, but good work getting on the throttles. Is there a deep water approach to a sandbar inside harbour where he could nudge the bow onto and assess before going to the marina...he'd be concerned for even the short time it takes for the other boats to pull up close and assess it for him and stand by. It causes me to wonder how so many people manage to get so much money, not only to afford the boats, but all the money it costs to pour gas through them. With the cost of gas, my wife and I are very careful to limit our travel to necessity. I can't wrap my mind around the guzzling of gas by the barrelful just for a thrill, or funzzies. Thanks for your comment ... and sharing my sentiment. About 25 years ago, I coined a new description for Americans. Instead of the good old "We the people," I began referring to "Whee the people," to poke fun at how much our culture had become a nation of fun-seekers. I grew up working with WW2 vets in my younger years. Their serious approach to like was something I today admire ... and miss. They made me "Old Skool." @@OriginalOldSkoolFunk

@johnritter5951 Very interesting story. Much respect to the handfull of WWII vets we have left. History tells us that they were very special men and women. My late father was a Korean and Vietnsm war US Army veteran, and I am a Dessert Storm US Air Force vet. Nothing like the OLDSKOOL...!

I would highly doubt someone spend 27000 on entry with out an experienced captain. Some times when your fishing for a few million dollars things get a little sendy. Anyone know which boat that was?

@@arabiantxn some boat builders have “cored” hull sides. Meaning wood sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass. The wood provides stiffness. All is well until something compromises one of the fiberglass layers and allows water to get in between. Then the wood that was supposed to be providing strength is now rotten. It’s very hard to tell if there’s a problem or not because you can’t see the wood. inside.
