Lead acid batterie banks require an occasional equalization charge. It's basically a controlled over-charge. Your smart controller may have it as an option, or you can find advice online on how to do it with a regular battery charger. It will add back some capacity and will make your battery bank last longer.

I had a 36cc very similar to yours, now I have a 40cc ('98). Great fan by the way. I am based in Alicante. Agree in most points and it is very well analyzed and explained for non-experts. Congrats. If you have to change batteries probably worthwhile to invest in AGM. Engineers tell me you have to choose the whole package (alternator, 220 charger, inverter if needed etc) so considerable investment but there are kits for mobile homes that are affordable.

Loving your videos - great humour and also we are about to complete on the purchase of a 2003 361... we would love to see more the stuff - like how you installed the new charging plug in front of the nav station.
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 3 жыл бұрын
Good choice! We might do an updated boat tour again. But that will take a while still. The charging plugs are connected to cabin lights breaker on main panel through a bus bar. Unit itself quite easy to install, drilling three big holes with „drill saw bit(?)“, one per plug
@kevinbond3858
@kevinbond3858 3 жыл бұрын
@@seethelittlethings Do you mean that you just connected the plugs into the wiring for the light at the point of the nearest light? Or did you run a separate cable back to the bus bar?
@seethelittlethings
@seethelittlethings 3 жыл бұрын
Separate cable from mains. The back of the new 12v car sockets is right inside the electric panel. There should be lots of free wago sockets on the main (labeled 30, if they kept the standard)

I got through last Summer with a single 160watt panel. Short Winter days and overcast skies meant I needed more. I now have 2 solar panels and a wind generator. I store the energy in 4 lead acid batteries and 4 lithium batteries. Total storage 720 amp hours. I can now add more electric devices. Cheers Gray Australia

Great video . The weak point is your system is the wimpy 30a alternator . Get yourself a new General Motors 220 AMP one wire alternator for $ 100 . You may need to use the old pulley , but not a big deal !

Alex, Mandy - you've got the Ikea induction hob we're planning to buy, called Tillreda I think. How is it? Good enough for its good price? And Mrs Valden says, 'Ask them if they've got a breadmaker.' One of those would be nice. And it would save gas.

Hey Mr Valden 😊 yes it works very well. Simple. Solid. One plate but if we had the space I’d buy two plates next to each other. We don’t have a bread maker, space...

Thanks for sharing all the little things you guys are amazing especially that awkward Alex guy...... well any way if you like VHF then wait till you check out UHF, in short thats amature HAM radio and can send and receive on almost any frequency. I use a hand held Boufeng UV-5R, it broadcasts much further than VHF and can use a line entenna that can utilize the full length of the mast. Oh and it can also be used as a fm radio as well. The UV-5R is only $24 US

.... don't have a clue about it, but am surprised the wind generator does not provide more ..... you mentioned the induction cook top, have seen Mandy make bread, is that an electric or gas stove you have .... I guess it is your dream also to have lithium batteries and be able to use more of the charge .... thx for sharing your knowledge ..... and as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

Thank you so much. If your batteries would die and you would want to change to LFP, I can give some advice. Did it on our Oceanis 393 this winter for 1600€ - 400Ah Incl 123smartbms (320 usable if you limit to 80% DOD). A world of a difference.

This price looks very competitive; did you assemble the batteries yourself or which brand did you buy - if I may ask?
@henrirotthier5710
@henrirotthier5710 3 жыл бұрын
@@arnehayn4354Yes I assembled the batteries myself. Easy to do.. I used 8 prismatic 200Ah from the firm BLS on AliExpress (no import taxes). The BMS is from a Dutch company and has Bluetooth, so you can see and configure via i- / smart-phone or tablet. I found much info on the KZbin channel from Will Prowse. He has a website with links to the LFP batteries to buy.

Nice attempt, but I do this for a living. Cheap lead-acid batteries are just that, cheap to buy but expensive to maintain and use. Batteries are those things that you need to buy the most expensive you can afford. Replace all lamps with LEDs and you will increase battery life. Maximizing insulation for fridge, freezers, and water heaters can be a good investment too. Solar devices for hot water and cooking can also save energy and getting rid of luxury items that use batteries and replace them with old-fashioned manual items. My dream is to remove diesel engines, add battery storage to those spaces, and increase generation capacity to charge the huge battery bank. Of course generation capacity is limited by available surface area, so hybrid design with diesel/electric propulsion.

You and Mandy should get 6 or 7 hamsters and connect a small generator to the hamster wheel. Then you could have another reliable source of electricity, and extra food if you get lost at sea

My two favorite dependents 😀. Very interesting,as lights go out in the house,they go to leds,same with the Jeep. The portable navigation lights for my boat are leds. Just makes more sense 🤓.yeah! Mandy gave me the finger 🙂. Would a spiral wind generator give you more amps and be quieter? Take care of yourselves and be safe out there. 💪🏻👩🏼⛵️👙🤷🏼‍♂️🦆🌲. Eeyore

12.0 volts is a dead battery....never go below 12.4, maybe 12.3. air marine is a better windgenerator....50 amps at hurricane speed. My last boat was electric including engine and no motor running necessary. MPPT really does increase the efficiencies.

A 12V Battery is comprised of 2 v cells x 6 so therefore you do not want to go below 10V thus destroying a cell. Electricity and batteries are rated by 80% to 100% charge being usable so charge your batteries up to at least 80% and you will find your Watt hours will serve you better

Those USB things were developed originally for data communication for keyboards and mice, with the trace amount of power to be transferred to them so those would work. That's it. They've become WAY too overused and developed both for power and for datacomms. Datacomms, because they are a horrible master/slave device (vs firewire 1391b which was bona-fide peer-to-peer). Power, because all sorts of extensions to be original standard had to be made to accommodate that. Despite that, all sorts of new boats, RVs, even houses have regrettably been wired for it. But, wireless power has been around for a much longer time (think Nikolai Tesla powering street lights a couple of kms away using power transmission antennas, over a hundred years ago). Now, you can feasibly use wireless power within a small house between a transmission antenna and receiving antenna a few meters apart. To power a toy train or set of lightbulbs for example. It operates on a form of resonant induction (induction - the kind of mm transmission typically used to charge an electric toothbrush, or transfer power between the windings of an electric motor). An operational form of resonant induction was used to drive a little passenger train all around the South Korean exhibition grounds a few years back. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resonant_inductive_coupling So now you can develop and market an RIC power connector (for real-time use, not just charging) for your laptops and handy-phones. No boat rewiring needed. Make great bucks and buy lots of boats. Partner with witricity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiTricity

Buy a 12v to 19v buck transformer off amazon hook it up to 12v receptacle Label it 19v . Buy a power cord for your computer off ebay and a 12 volt plug . . Most computers it your case are 220v to 19v dc transformer . I also cut the cord of router and wired it to 12vdc . Most router transformers are 220 to 12vdc , Then I purchased a POE injector off amazon to power my bullet m2hp wifi extender (off amazon) with 12vdc . This gives you full wifi on the boat with your computer all powered by 12vdc . This 19v will charge your computer battery like it was plugged in to a 220 outlet. You can then hook on to hotels .cafes etc that have free wifi while on anchor ,or your phone
