Yeah scollop dredging is like the apocalypse - you can imagine deep see bottom trawling is probably the same but we never get to see it. It also throws an awful lot of silt into the water which causes lots of problems for species that need clearer waterflow (jewel anaenomes are one for example).

@@sailingelectricgitana1286 Famed scallops are fine - they're basically just grown in baskets, there's also diver caught scallops (or you can do it yourself it's quite fun chasing escaping comedy false teeth:-)) but farmed fish are not the answer - they're fed fish so farming fish actually ends up being a net drop in fish numbers similarly chemicals are used to prevent parasites (small crabs on salmon) which make them look unsightly. My uncle fished for Crabs off the West Coast of Scotland one of the fishfarms dropped a barrel of their pesticide into the Loch by accident and killed all the crabs.

The first time I went there were fish EVERYWHERE. Schools so thick you couldn't see through them. Similar things can happen with pesticides and pharmasutical drugs from sewage and factory farmed livestock ... That can also include fish farms. ... That also cause other local ecological problems. I started watched your channel years ago because I had always dreamed of getting a sailboat. The other reason was to reduce some stress of work while traveling two hours a day on the commuter train to and from work. I'm a lawyer in Chicago but live in a distant suburb. I continued watching because you guys seemed so happy and seeing the beautiful scenery made me happy. I stopped watching just after you had Lenny. I'm not sure exactly why, maybe it was the pandemic and the fact that I didn't travel to work for a bit. Nevertheless, I returned to your channel today. I was blown away by how big Lenny is now. I last saw him as a new baby. I'm 53 years old. When you get older, time passes by in an odd way. A considerable amount of time can pass, but it feels like a short period of time. Consequently, in my head, it was as if I stopped watching your channel a few months ago, so imagine my shock to see Lenny talking! And, you have another child! How awesome. Well, suffice it to say, I came back to your channel with the right video. I'm on my way home on the commuter train and I can just feel the stress melt away as I watch how happy you both are as parents and the wonderful views you provided for us. P.S. your video skills were great before, but, boy, have you taken it to the next level. Well done. I have four children ages 30, 23, 20 and 16. Time flies by so enjoy every minute you can.

A wonderful episode! Beautiful cinematography, absolutely stunning shots and editing. Loving how you're using your platform to talk about the insane problem of overfishing. Not a massive fan of spearfishing for many reasons, but the way you're doing it, is as you say, much better than buying from the supermarket, and if we all do something it has a massive impact! Well done!

Excellent vid. Agree with the need to protect our one and only satellite (our lifeboat, actually) circling a small-to-medium star which is located on the outer portion of an "arm" spiraling from a galaxy we call The Milky Way. (Trying to express the immensity of it all and the dilemma we are, all, in.) Your selection of music is outstanding! I'm, now, a fan of Ten Towers which I have investigated, thoroughly. The others will follow. 👍

I found myself holding my breath watching the "air supply" meter while y'all were diving. 😳 I started feeling panicked a couple times! I'm enjoying the editing and animation, too!

Thank you for talking about coral reefs and the impact we as humans have had on them. I’m a climate scientist and when working on a recent report that was released last month, I had to assess the impacts of climate change on Africa’s biodiversity and by far the biggest impact has been on coral reefs and this is a global trend. Coral reefs are extremely sensitive systems and changes in sea temperatures as well as human activity impacts are wiping out these beautiful ecosystems. Thank you for using your platform to speak about this.

This was a great episode! Your “movie making skills” have really hit new heights, the trollers have been raping the sea's for decades and decades. Many people that aren't connected to the waters and seas and the in incredible life within, thus they simply aren't aware of all the damage that’s been done. Pls keep bringing up.

Trawlers. Drag netters. Tolling is longline fishing with bait. Trawlers and seiners take things indiscriminately, although longline trollers will have bycatch as well. Seabirds that dive for the bait.

It's just gut wrenching to see what we've done. The future isn't good if we don't put a total halt to the business as usual.

SLV to-do list: Keep babies in the boat Workout Keep boat in water and off land Hunt Clean (fish and boat) Smoke/prepare fish Cook Feed all humans in the boat Educate the public on ocean problems This is an excellent to-do list and one that I feel lots of people could benefit from. No frills, just important basics for life.

Please, who is creating the animations….they are funny and clever every time, as was the spear fishing game! Excellent visuals, words and music. David laughing is a joy. Pleased Sarah is still crew. The coral reefs halved in my lifetime…62 years. And I don’t feel like I’ve lived that long. 🇳🇿🇳🇿🐑🐑NZ

Totally and thanks for talking about how the oceans have changed. I grew up in the Marshall Islands in the '90s and the difference in the way the oceans look when scuba and snorkeling is every year more and more astonishing and heartbreaking.
