BOAT LIFE: We Took Our TINY HOME Into The French Canals!

We finally made it into the French Canals on our tiny floating home!
Boat life is occasionally extremely stressful. Taking our tiny floating home through 100 stone sided locks would make any boast owner stressed.Upon entering the Canal du Midi with our sailing boat (now converted into a canal boat!), our first order of business was negotiating our first lock, the round lock at Agde. We had unstepped our mast and was transporting the mast on the deck of our sailing boat, so dealing with the overhang was a new experience- not to mention dealing with the awkward dimensions of the lock itself! But it was a LOT of fun (stressful fun- but isn't that the best kind?) and definitely a new experience.
Bring on the rest of the french canals!
Cheers,
Nick & Terysa

Hey you guys are still together and your smiling and laughing! The lock could not have been that bad. Not only that, but you’re still afloat. Enjoyed watching from my chair, I figure I would have sunk at least one boat if that was me.

You both did a great job getting Ruby Rose in and out of the lock. I look forward to the rest of this series. Can you rent a canal boat to go through there? That might be interesting for some people who want to go through there, but have either no boat, or a larger boat which won't fit.

Our locks in Seattle WA have floating tie-offs in the walls of the locks, you just tie off and they float up or down with the boat, super convenient when it’s just two people on board.

So good of you to share. The first time in a lock can be quite stressful. You'll get used to it though. You have time to practice as you go on. You are experts by now and you've made it trough! I love cruising on canals and locks. It's so peaceful. For the first time since I met you, I actually know what it's like and what to do. When it comes to canals I'm in my world so to speak. These coming episodes I will very much look forward to. Hope you hade a cold one!

Not sure what heavy work you mean? Literally have never been unable to physically do something that Nick can't do on the boat, except for zip up the sailbag and close the hatches from the inside, both of which I'm too short for! Everything else- perfectly capable.

@@sailingrubyrose Wasn't me! I was only joking that you were probably wise to refuse to drive in those close conditions. Forgot the wink...sorry. The wife and I argue about who gets to pilot in sticky situations all the time. I have been known to neutral the throttle and walk away from the helm in the face of heavy criticism. ;)
