+Larry Sunderland You are very welcome! Glad that you enjoy our music. We each have diverse tastes in music, but we gravitate to the harmonies of the '70's. Happy to hear that you like what we've done. Cheers!

@geraldhartley12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for listening anyway. We're very aware that it's not that great. It was just a fun song to learn during our annual get together. It's not put out here as a "cover"... just a snapshot of brothers getting together to make some music. That's all.
@selenaakerley270110 жыл бұрын
And you just learned the song on the mandolin!! I'd love to see exactly what you'd do with it in another month!! You were amazing at the very least!! All of you were great! Best rendition of this song that I've heard of this song in MANY years and I've heard a lot of them. One of my most favorite songs of all time and you guys did it top notch.
@geraldhartley10 жыл бұрын
Thank you Selena! This was a few years back and I honestly haven't picked it up since. Your comment makes me want to play the mandolin again. :) Very nice of you to comment. Glad you like what we did with this one.

Just being honest Gerald. You have an amazing gift on the mandolin and you sing very well. Please, pick up that mandolin and play, play, play! :) We'll all be the richer for it.

Great song. One of my favorite Tommy Shaw tunes and the solo was perfect. Great harmonies and leads. You guys nailed it. I'm learning mandolin myself. After two years, I still can't get my fingers to move that fast. Keep up the vids. They're great to see you brothers getting together and having a good time and sharing it.

Thanks. Glad you like this one too. It's always been a favorite! Enjoy! :)
Had this 8 track senior year in high school & spent hours driving around in my ancient Olds Starfire that ran like crap and burned oil like it was going out of style. Listening to this.... I can almost smell that 10W40 sizzling off the exhaust manifolds. Thanks for a great listen!
@djrdjr88887 жыл бұрын
Thanks fellas. Enjoyed it. If I could sing and play like that.....It's frustrating loving to sing but sucking. I sing all the time at home, but as much as I'd love to be able to competently sing with and for others, it ain't happenin'. Anyway, wanted to thumbs ups you dudes as well as remind you that every time you wish you sounded like Tommy Shaw or were the next Crosby, Stills, and Nash, remember this; There are countless guys like me that would kill to be able to have "skillz" of the Hartleys. BTW, I was a high school junior when Cornerstone came out, and had the album and the cassette in my car, and played the hell out of both!
@geraldhartley7 жыл бұрын
david r Well thank you very much. I was in jr. high when cornerstone came out but my memories of listening to the 8 track while cruising Main Street are similar to yours. What a great era for music. Glad you can relate. I'm thankful for whatever talents god gave me, and it makes me and my brothers happy to share when it's appreciated. Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy the other songs on my channel. Cheers!

@avivaben At the beginning of the 1979 Styx original, there is bowed double bass, too, which lasts for about 30 seconds, at which point Chuck Panozzo switches to plucking. Some sources also state there is a tuba being played, starting from the instrumental break.

Take me back to my boat on the river I need to go down, I need to come down Take me back to my boat on the river And I won't cry out any more Time stands still as I gaze In her waters She eases me down, touching me gently With the waters that flow past my boat on the river So I don't cry out anymore Oh the river is wide The river it touches my life like the waves on the sand And all roads lead to Tranquillity Base Where the frown on my face disappears Take me down to my boat on the river And I won't cry out anymore Oh the river is deep The river it touches my life like the waves on the sand And all roads lead to Tranquillity Base Where the frown on my face disappears Take me down to my boat on the river I need to go down Won't you let me go down? Take me back to my boat on the river And I won't cry out anymore And I won't cry out anymore And I won't cry out anymore
