I never gave the MX5 a look until we needed a second car and one of the ladies my wife works with said her Dad had a 2006 Grand Touring with 40,000 miles on it for $4,000. I took it out for a drive and it was a done deal. I love driving this car and from what I understand I got a really good deal. The car has been kept in a garage for the last 8 years so the paint is perfect. I'm going to put a high flow exhaust on it and black convertible top and a upgraded sound system in it and enjoy.

Anyone who says anything bad about the NC Miata, has never driven one. go out now and buy one if you want a roadster before everybody finds out the truth... This is the best all-around Miata. Yes some of the other generations have great things about them, but this is the one that hits the crosshairs the best. It Cher's the platform with the RX8 of the same era. This makes this Miata a true sports car above and beyond the lightweight roadster that everyone thinks it should be. I'm glad that the latest generation has gone back to the small roadster formula, but this is the one that checks more boxes than any of them. They're all wonderful but this one is the most unique

A few years ago, I was looking for a car to replace my horribly rusted out 1979 Alfa Romeo spider. This was not an easy choice. I had the Alfa for over 10 years, and absolutely loved it. A 2014 NC Miata caught my eye on the internet. After going for one test drive, the NC was a done deal! I absolutely love the NC. Added bonus is reliability as well lol! Awesome video guys!

Partially biased, but the NC Miata is the only Miata I’ve ever owned. When I was searching for a Miata to buy, I drove them all (NA/NB1/NB2) and fell in love with my 06 NC1. In my opinion the NC1 kept a lot of the nuances of the NA and paid homage to the Miatas that came before it (in regards to styling). I’ve gotten so many compliments and it’s a total blast to drive!

I love my 2006 NC...Copper mica red, with the same color interior as this one...I daily drive it throughout the summer and fall, and it just makes me smile every day I drive it...very comfortable (I'm 5-8, 160lbs)...and no one has ever referred to it as a "boat" lol....only an uneducated hater would call this car a boat...

I sold my NB because had no AC, but it was such an amazing car! The same day I sold it another friend came with his NC and I tested. I am IN LOVE with that NC, more comfortable, AC, Bilstein B12 Pro kit, more solid, great throttle response, brakes, steering, all of it! It felt like a step forward of the nb, but with the same soul.... And next month that car it will be mine! ;) :D There is nothing better than buying a car to a friend.

The NC won more Car & Driver Top 10's than any other generation. 8X winner. Unfortunately, most of the ridiculous and wrong opinions were from some NA/NB Miata owners on Miata forums. It was a real shame and so disappointing how wrong and biased opinions became the standard, repeated opinion over the years and a 2500 lb car was labeled a "boat." One MIata isn't "better" than the other - they are all slightly different variations on a theme that's over 30 year old now.

@@NappMotorsports I'd say, to be fair, that the NA/NB had more of a Go Kart feel than a NC without modifications. The NC had more power, stability, better brakes and safety features, but felt slightly less connected out of the box. Probably due to the weight and bigger wheels and tires. However, add in coil-overs and sways and the NC leaps ahead and its not even close.

I recently picked up a PRHY added the Ohlins and Hawk brakes its a screamer with the single exit exhaust, will be even more fun with the 2.5 camed motor swap. I like it better then my NB which is so much fun and a blast on the track. keep up the fun content.

NC owner here and I've never understood the NA or NB. If I wanted safety standards from the 90s meaning ill probably die in any crash above 35mph I'd be in a home built locost or a sport bike. In the NC at least I can enjoy things like chassis stiffness.

Current NC owner here and with basic coilovers and exhaust mods it’s excellent. I used to own a Turbo NB (SE in Australia, Mazaspeed in Us) and it was probably my favourite MX5, but power and torque wise I think the NC has it beat.

I have a Red 2006 MX 5 Gt . I absolutely love it . I love the looks and Its the most fun car I,ve ever driven you can feel the "sportyness" in the steering , seating , the gear shifting , the high revving engine , sound , the view from a low open sportscar and every thing tightly surrounding you in there it feels more like a plane cockpit than a car cab I find it ergonomically perfect for me my elbows are both resting on big flat surfaces , the gearshifter is a few inches to the right of the steering wheel I just move my arm sideways a little to go from wheel to shifter effortlessly I dont even have to lift my elbow and then the audio controls and cruise are on the wheel so I dont have to move hands anywhere or even look at them to operate that . I,m pretty sure the boat idea comes from how the car looks especially from the front its very rounded and kinda looks like you could drive into a lake and it would float but hell its beautiful as well . Also I think some people got a little jealous of the extra Horsepower and luxury options the NC had .

Had an NB for a couple years it was a great car. I literally went to SC from NJ to pick up a 2014 NC Club prht last weekend. Paint has scratches and body has some door dings but mechanically it's great and NO RUST. Going to have a blast this spring and summer and will talk to my body guy on addressing the paint. It's the perfect in between

I've had an na and an nb personally the nb beats the nb overall but the feel of the na is awesome. I haven't driven an nc but I've come to like them over time! Any miata is a great miata :)

I’ve owned daily driven and tracked NA, NB, and NCs for 30 years. I have ND2 on order, but I’m keeping my NC. Indestructible. Driven it hard for 150,000 miles and engine runs perfectly. No repairs except replaced ignition wires at 140,000. New top. Replaced a couple wheels from too many spin outs off the track. NCs are highly underrated, especially the NC2 if you want to track it. NC2s had improvements from a couple years of tracking the NC1s. If you’re not tracking it, NC1s are an even better deal. I’ve owned both. NC2s and ND1s are a lot closer in performance and feel than a lot of people seem to realize. You can pick up an NC2 (with bilsteins and LSD) and track it without mods. Biggest sports car bargain out there now. IMHO

I take my boat from Albany GA to Nashville TN to see my son with no problems at all and that like a 6-7 hr trip. I wouldn't do it without cruse control. The NC is a great Miata.

Recently acquired a 2011 GT PRHT in Mica Red with Dune leather and 36,000 one-owner miles. I've looked at and driven them all. Was torn between a new RF and this, but we like the top down openness compared to the ND RF. It is totally stock and totally a blast. I may just leave it stock and rub it with a polishing cloth for therapy. I envisioned swapping the stereo for a head unit with CarPlay and backup camera, but NAH! I usually drive in silence and experience the curves as intended.

I bought my NC because I fitted off the bat without changing stuff, plus it had all the good basics already - AC, cruise, 4 airbags etc. My memory could be a little rosy, but it's doesn't seem as sweet or balanced as the NA I drove once in the late 90s. The engine isn't as smooth and keen to bounce off the limiter between corners. But then my NC engine blew bottom end bearings - typical of previously abused units I believe... so it could have sucked all along. But with coilovers, a replacement engine and a spare set of rims with track tyres it only owes me about $15k AUD ($10,500 USD), including a top to bottom service when I got it and lavish servicing since. It goes, turns and steers like a boss! A lot of people have had a drive but they prefer me driving them - there is something about being driven in that car smoothly but quickly that people enjoy. I wasn't prepared to pay the freight, but I wanted the flying miata shocks, springs and roll bar set which I figured would be the perfect, well-sorted upgrade. My coilovers are awesome though. I think it rides a little hard on the 17s - not quite enough side wall I think. I've kept the Bose stereo because it's got speed- and roof-adapting stuff and there is an aux plug you can add. Just going to swap in some low-ohm polk splits I have lying around. It could use another 1000 rpm and 30 hp, which is basically what Mazda did with this engine in the ND series 2. Aside from that, every person who drives it gets out a little wistful looking, as if they wish they could get out of their box far enough to grab one. My Forester feels like a sloppy rolls royce by comparison, but I hardly drive the sube these day :)

2 months ago I bought a 2011 NC PRHT Special Edition in Dolphin Gray Mica color with light stone gray leather. Wanted a MT but got AT ( 😄 don't care go ahead and laugh I got left foot pressure problems. It's still a blast to drive with the sequential or paddle shifters. Great looking car get a lot of nice compliments. My mods currently... Enkei PF01 wheels with Conti DWS06+ tires Bilstein B16 PSS10 coil overs GWR Super Q exhaust Moroso aluminum pressurized coolant resavoir. Love my yacht!

My brother had an NA, I’ve owned two NCs (2006 GT w/ LSD and Handling package; now own 2015 Club PRHT), and have driven 3 NDs (GT, Club, Club w/ BBS package). My 2015 is easily my favorite of all of them. At just under 6’, the NA is just too tiny. It also is gutless. It’s very tossable, and you can feel the weight difference, though it is not that significant. The ND is nice in creature comfort, but it is a very cramped car for my 165lb body. Also, the motor, at least in the ND1, does not like to rev. Yes, it’s a little lighter and more nimble, but the visceral experience is just not quiet as great. Would love to drive the ND2 where this is supposedly addressed with the new motor. Love my NC2, and I can take it on longer drives (done a 5-hour trip in it) without issue.

I just laugh at the hate. My 2010 grand touring PRHT is the most fun car I have ever owned. Everywhere I go people talk to me about it. I chose the NC as I thought it was the best of all the versions in my eyes. I hope to enjoy this car for many years to come as my daily driver.

I've got lots of experience driving Miatas over the years, I've driven (and loved) every generation they've put out so far....and still, without question, the NC is my favorite one. The PRHT is especially my favorite one (man I wish the RF was an actual convertible like the NC PRHT). Typically those who make jokes about the NC have never even sat in one in the first place. Hell, they've never parked their Miata next to one and noticed how it's barely larger than any of the others lol. It's also the only one that looks like an NA without the pop-up lights (NC1 looks like an NA with widened fenders).

@@NappMotorsports nicely to see more people giving them a go and seeing just how goodbye that chassis is! My personal favorite order is NC, NB, NA, Fiata, ND, then RF. It looks bad but there are no bad cars on the list it's just a preference really since they're all awesome. The RF is at the bottom for me because while it's ridiculously good looking (omfg)...the top doesn't go down and it doesn't feel like a convertible at all. They made the Miata for people who hate Miatas haha, but at least they did a great job at it. I wish it were a fixed roof or a fastback instead honestly. If it has a true convertible roof like the NC PRHT then I'd have bought one immediately haha.

Mazda nailed it with this car... programmable ECU with just a OBD2 plug, factory wide-band O2 sensor, double wishbone suspension, utterly fantastic stock brakes (slap some DTC-60's and go all day on track with no fade), optimized angle of the radiator for maximized cooling, minimized the weight when compared to other cars of similar class... the list goes on and on. I don't get why people call it a boat. The one I'm looking at is 2359 pounds, LESS than the 2370 pounds of the 2001 Miata NB I was considering at first - with more horsepower, too. It's like, maybe 2 inches longer bumper to bumper, too? It's barely larger at all. And hey, you can actually properly fit in it if you're over 4 foot tall, which helps.

I got mine NC with 160K mi , track the shit out of it and regularly outrun some really good NA's and NB's . Far away from the boat much more capable than earlier generations even with tuned engines that make more power than NC , pure handling on track is way better on same tires. I don't know if ND is better , probably ND2 could be . But during lockdown I did 2.5 swap so it should be ok to compete with ND2 too

Mk1 is nice for the retro look but NC is superior on track, ND too expensive for most at the moment and NB is basically a slightly better NA with worse looks

They call the NC a boat because as released, it weighed in something around 200 lbs heavier than the previous model, the NB... but it also has a bit more power. In the last analysis, it comes out about even in terms of performance. It's not really a porker!

Absolutely recommend a 1.8 NC as a first car! I have the 2.0 NC ZSport that has been tuned and upgraded to 210hp without turbo. It does exactly what you tell it to. Much harder to get the rear end out compared to before. So you'd think it'll be fun to drive. It still is really fun to drive. Then I drove a standard 1.8 and realised mine has lost the edginess and some of the fun that Mazda engineers designed into the car. Watch out for low oil level otherwise it'll end very costly.

I drove an ND and my own opinion is they ruined it with electric steering, so I refuse to buy one. Flying Miata says they have never retrofitted a non electric rack on an ND, so that would be an experiment. Another issue is paying that much the ND colors are all so loaded with peril as to be putrid. A body shop friend said if a soul red 3 stage Mazda came in he would refuse the job because the color is impossible to match--it's going to look terrible. The NAs and NBs are too old, too noisy and so cramped I can't heel and toe. That only leaves the rather homely later NCs. Luckily they look ok once lowered and with a wider stance. Mazda upgraded the NC2 to forged internals not for strength--but to quiet down the cabin! But, they added a sound tube to pump intake noise into the already noisy cabin! Luckily that is easily blocked. So, hunting for a great low mileage NC2 and intend to mod the suspension and add sound deadener and keep it a very long time. Maybe see you guys at the Glen, but Miatas are frustrating to track because you can be way faster in the corners but pointing by guys who have no clue how to drive--they just have more power then hold you up in corners again and again so too frustrating.

The NCs are known as boats because they bigger and a lot heavier plus the interior is not the nicest a little plastiky all over. BUT they certainly they are the most underrated of the miatas, I have grown fond of the NC specially the NC2!!! 😎👍

I've found most NA/NB owners have a number in their head about their car that is about 150-200lbs light. Loaded NB2 is within 50lbs of an NC, but no one calls them heavy. 2.5 swap a cheap NC, throw 245s on it, and have a cayman killer on track.

how is 45kg a lot heavier? thats only 4% heavier ... and 50mm longer.. which really is nothing. and 40mm wider which is a good thing. (compared to NB)
