I've always asked if they can hang me in the slings the night before to get those last few squares of bottom paint on. Some will, others not so much. Don Casey always said whatever you paint on right before launch, you might as well just go dump in the water. Not an opinion, that guy knows a hell of a lot more than me. You do too. Either way, you do damn fine work Mr. Boothby. Lady Ruth looks great, fair winds.

Kevin, I realize months have passed since you posted this but, I used to work for spade anchors. Do not attach the swivel directly to the anchor the way you did. Use a shackle between the two. Swivels fail from side loading . I’ve seen it often (we also carried swivels from Kong and would get warranty claims , not covered , side loading)…

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that. Any rigger will see that and cringe.

Good choice on the Brompton C Line 6-speed. Brompton is the best quality and strongest folding bike, and this particular model is their best value. I have the same model, but I don't sail. I think you will have to lubricate it more often than on land due to the harsh marine environment, as I'm pretty sure you already know! Take particular care of the 3-speed internally geared hub on the back wheel. If the oil in there dries up, it will gum up and cause shifting problems. Would suggest re-oiling that hub once a year or so. You will have to take it apart though, as there is no external oil port. Good luck on your travels! Love to watch your videos.

Thanks for the advice. So far I love the Brompton. Will have to pull up vids on how to lubricate the gears.

My wife and I had two Dahon folding bikes aboard our 41 trimaran when we lived aboard and used them ALL the time. I cobbled together a trailer so we could haul lots of groceries and even two 5 gallon diesel jerry cans if necessary. The best thing we ever did with them... replaced the tires with airless versions. No more worries about punctures or losing air. The neat thing was you can choose the airless version you want from soft and comfortable ride to harder and more firm.
@nobody468202 ай бұрын
Excellent! Would you be kind enough to share the model and website of the tire manufacturer? Thanks in advance. Also, how did the trailer work out on rougher terrain (i.e., poor quality streets)? 😃👍

@tvideo1189 I have an about 25 years old Dahon California III folding bike in stainless steel on bord of my little Allegro 27. Folding very small (smaller than a Brompton), quite fast with a 3 speed gearshift and due to the stainless material still looking like new. You see these Dahons often on eBay for between 150 to 300 €, at least in Germany. Very good quality, and wether for cycling for sight seeing or to get some groceries, a bike on bord is as necessary as a good rowing dinghi.

Personally I like having my escooter I picked up recently. But a folding ebike is definitely in the future. Also I use a folding 2 child bike trailer. When folded it's about the size of a folding coffee table and just a couple inches thick. Also gives about 100lbs towing ability. Great for groceries,a couple propane tanks, or fuel.

Putting a couple of links between the anchor and swivel supposedly protects the swivel from any potential sideways pressure stressing the swivel.

had my Brompton 12 years, used it daily - I recently put it on my boat and it got stolen. I didn't get to find out if I could keep my lazy lack of maintenance in salty environment. Anyway was looking at fold-ups again and tried a few others - nothing at the price comes close to ride and build so I bought another one. A bit of fun-knack to flicking it open in 1,2, 3 smooth action.

Like the videos, watch each one and often comment. Ever considered 2 links of chain between the swivel and the anchor. I attached the swivel to my Ronca anchor shaft and started to think how much stress was on the swivel with a wind shift that caused the anchor to finally break out and pivot to reset. With 2 links of chain/shackles I think the swivel would always just be in tension without the stress of bending. Attached it last year and while not used as much as you do seems to be working ok.

Hi, I really enjoy your channel, your refits and your cruising. I had spent many years in the boat building industry. On your gungeon you build or refit that your self steering pivots on, have you ever thought of making a mold using the gungeon as a plug (the reverse of a mold ) and then pour resin mixed with milled fiber and silica. After it's cured, remove it from the and ad a layer or two of fiberglass matt or roving for extra strength, that's probably not needed. It should last indefinately barring any hard groundings just a thought. Cheers andFair seas ,,,,_/),,, Mike

You need to add a shackel to that anchor swivel. It is strong with a straight line pull but weak in bending. Also it will get stuck in the slo and not line up with the shank of the anchor. I had one and swapped it for the Mantus swivel. Love the channel. You have taught me a lot.

Oh Ruth Every is going to be beautiful with a top sail gallant! And nice bag for it. I have been looking those Brompton for a few years but they are SO expensive. One last thing, you will want to redo your swivel shackle You want a few link of chai nor a regular shackle between the fluke of the anchor and the swivel otherwise as your boat circles around at anchor the swivel shackle will get side loads and the anchor jaw/fork side will just get pried open. Cheers, a. Haha, yes just like sailboatcarrabarra3114 just wrote!
