I owned a 1975 Rival 32 ' Secret Arrival' for 20 years and I still miss the boat. Great boat and great design. My friend here in Newfoundland has a Rival 34 which he and his wife have sailed to Greenland, Caribbean, and to South America and back to Newfoundland and Labrador. They still have theirs and continue to sail it everywhere.

You really can't beat Rival yachts. They are absolutely fantastic at what they do! Amazing offshore passage making boats and great to Potter around on the weekend in. I wonder if arrival 34 has ever sailed around the world or will we be the first 🤔🤔✌️

Hope you don't mind but you said you're doing a Q&A and I have a few things I'd like to ask. You said in your channel intro video that you did this journey before on a cutlass. Are there any particular things that you learned from that trip that has influenced this current one? What has been the biggest differences that the increasing boat size has made? Is the 'around Britain' the longest journey you've done - I know you've still a long way to go with this trip, but do you have any plans for adventures further afield? Atlas is beautiful - you've obviously poured your heart and sole into her. How much time would you say do you spend on maintenance? What's your favorite thing about her, and is there anything you really don't like? You two obviously get on really well... but what do you fall out over the most? What's each others worst habit???!!!!! As you share the boat together, have there been any decisions about things/upgrades/where things should live etc... that you have disagreed on? And how do you sort it out if you do? When on a long trip, what's the hardest thing to cope with? And what's the best sailing moment you've had? Hope you don't mind me all those questions, really love the videos.

I've been contemplating buying a boat for a year or so, but I've been thinking of much larger boats as they're more suited to what I eventually want to do, but after watching you guys gadding about in a much smaller boat, I''m looking at buing a very inexpensive 26ft boat, also with a BUKH engine (although a DV10) ... I may as well make my mistakes on a boat that doesn't cost more than my house! And I'm blaming you ... I hold you completely irresponsible for my actions ... but watching you guys has given me a kick to just do it. Thanks
@TheSailingBrothers3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for such a fantastic heart warming comment 🤭. We say go for it!!! It's the best thing my brother and I have done 👍 and buying a smaller boat to get into sailing is a great idea. BUKH engines are extremely reliable as long as you look after them 😃. If something goes wrong with your boat we will take full responsibility!! 😁😁
@oomwat61013 жыл бұрын
@@TheSailingBrothers The engine in this boat is a non-runner DV-10 ... but it's a 1970's single cylinder that's built to be taken apart and put back together again, and I'm a bit of a grease monkey so that's no problem. Standing rigging is 9 year old stainless, and the boat itself is 1970's solid glass with bilge keels. I won't be breaking any speed records, but slow is probably better for my level of experience :D Anything that goes wrong is 100% my fault ;)

beautiful boat, amazing amount of storage - just the job for a long passage!!!! We hope to put in a windlass and chain locker on our Pearson 31, do you have any drawings/photos of of the fore part of Atlas, above and below deck? Our current anchor locker is no more than a tub under the deck, with insufficient space for a necessary rode, line or chain We have space for a lunch hook only.. We would need to rebuild the V-berth to accommodate a hawspipe/chain locker/windless. Ideas/configurations/specs if you have any will help.

Tons of storage, we do not have any drawings unfortunately but you should be able to get them online rival 34 specifications I should imagine. Sounds like a hell of a lot of work to fit a windlass in the Chain Locker, good luck with that Pauline

You don't see boats anymore this tidy! I have a cape dory 30c and plan to do some refit to make more storage and more livable.

Cool video. Great job with that wood. Can you shower on board? Kudos.

Cheers Terry. The wood took a lot of time but was worth it. We have no shower on board 😥
