@@SailingNV No...I'm reluctant to sell my yacht until I find my next one...if I sell now and not have a boat to go to then I'll be homeless, so would rather sell mine when I can get into my new boat..I am now looking overseas.

I admireyour perseverance. It's often the difference between failure and success. These two videos of the inside of NV illustrate well the compromises involved in such a conversion. I 'get' the value that you're adding to the boat. However, as I'm a bit older than you both, ducking and diving under bulkheads would get very old for me very fast I suspect. You both have much more recent sailing experience than I do. So, I'll defer to your choice of layout. I realise also, that you have weight distribution to consider. However, I think I would've done things a bit differently, if possible. First off, I didn't hear anything about heating. But I assume you have that covered. Depending on how often you plan to have crew and guests, I think I would've opened out the head area, across the bow. Better still. I would make space for a guests head towards the rear of the boat. I would've moved the kitchen units right up to the hull and built in more storage space and a large upright fridge freezer. The galley still looks cramped to me. I don't know if you're going to enclose the guest doubles for privacy. Maybe without a port hole in each, you can't? I would drop the two rear most single bunks, otherwise anyone sleeping there will have coffin dreams. Use the area for storage of bikes and the outboard etc and put in a sit down workshop. Build your own fresh watermaker so you don't have to carry as much with you. Store the water and diesel and a genset as far to the rear as possible. I would've tried to build up the doghouse to give you more headroom below and more opening port lights for ventilation. Similar to the boats original design. I also would've built up the cockpit sides a bit to provide more shelter as well as provide a good base for a solid dodger and detachable bimini. It needn't have ruined the boats look, if done properly. You might've been able to raise the height of the single bunk areas and put in inward facing portlights. Avoiding the coffin dreams ;) I understand that you know your lifestyle best and it's very easy for the armchair admirals to criticise. I was considering doing exactly what you've done. However, the longer I think about it, the less it appeals. Partly because of the amount of work involved. But, more because of the compromises involved. Sailing is arduous enough over passages, without adding to the challenge unnecessarily. One other thing I'm curious about. Are you keeping the name NV? Does it have some special significance for you? When I think of all the beautiful names you might choose, NV seems a bit utilitarian. If everything went to schedule, you've completed your grand project so please accept my most sincere congratulations. You've both achieved something few others have and I hope you have many happy miles together on the seas and oceans :)

Hey Mike thanks so much for such a detailed comment and so sorry for my slow reply! We are hoping to produce a video about the interior soon, so you can see it all in more detail, but we haven't quite gotten round to it yet. Up till now we haven't needed heating (even during winter in NZ!), since the boat is foam cored, it's naturally really well insulated. Just cooking pizza and pasta warms up the whole boat! However we do have a petrol heater we're planning to instal in the saloon (probably). Opening up the bow for a big head is a nice idea, but we'd prefer to use the space for a workshop, as we've got a lot of tools. The head is also pretty big (or atleast big enough for our needs), maybe it doesn't look so big in the video, but it's 1.4m x 1.4m plus a bath (which is currently full of sails) which is another 2m long. There is also a huge hatch above which is great. We thought about doing a rear head and it would have been helpful for having guests, but we had limited space and preferred to use it for it for beds. If we'd moved the kitchen to hull, we'd have had to sit down to use it. We have built some more storage, in a unit in the middle, which I don't think we've shown yet. The guest doubles at the back do have a little port hole on the side, facing into the cockpit, and we did think about enclosing them, however for we're happy to have them open, maybe we'll add a curtain... We'd have liked to add a pothole in the saloon above the galley in the middle, but didn't have time this time round. We do now have a watermaker and that as well as the fuel and water tanks are indeed pretty far aft. Unfortunately we don't have time for any more major alterations for now, but maybe one day! Yes we will keep the name NV now, we wondered at the beginning about changing it, but have grown attached to it, and the initial can stand for "Nave Velo" which conveniently means sailing ship in Italian! Anyway thanks a lot for getting in touch and hope you will continue to watch our progress :)

@@SailingNV Thanks for taking the time to respond. It's easy to be a critic. Especially when you're not doing the work yourself and when you haven't even seen the boat. With your joint experience, I'm sure you've made the best conversion possible. And for sure, you'll make a big impression, in every port or anchorage you enter. I was thinking of doing something similar with a 50 ft racing hull. But at 57 yrs old and back injuries from parachuting, I don't have the ability to undertake such a project. I've decided, to save for another couple of years and buy a wood or steel boat, depending on where I see myself sailing, realistically. I think, if I'm honest, watching the extremely hard work that you put into your project, convinced me that I ought to go in a slightly different direction. So, I owe you, for that. As to the name of the boat. I own some Maseratis and they are famous for using very literal names. Like the Quattroporte. Four doors. Their saloon model. Maybe the long Italian version of NV is the answer. (Nave Velo) Anyhoo. If I see you in an anchorage, I'll call you up on the radio to say hello. Happy sailing ;)

What’s your total budget for the refit? and also, where will you store sail and other spare equipment? I’m looking for a similar project, anything in Fiji?😀

Not enough 🤣 not sure yet, will def make a video about this at some point. We’ve done almost all the work ourselves though to keep costs down. At the moment we have a container to store sails and other spare stuff which we were originally hoping to ship with us but now shipping costs have gone up so much not sure we will be able to… there’s a to 52 called patches in the yard here for sale maybe worth checking out? 🤷‍♀️
