Boat Trim Tab Upgrade and Herrington Lake Run | Shots Life

This week we install new self leveling trim tabs to the Stingray 180, the boat sure needed these, and we made our first Herrington Lake run with the new Nautical trim tabs to the Dam and back.

I would make sure you install the screws with 3M 5200 and put a small layer of face surface seal. That way you do have a double redundancy for water path. I’m an aircraft engineer and that’s pretty much the way fuel tanks are designed.

I'm sure you've heard this - a stainless steel prop would benefit you as well. A four blade prop would help too if you were looking to do sports like water skiing, but doesn't seem like that is your cup of tea...hope you had a good summer out there...can't wait to see if the Grady made it in this year.

Hey! Those look great. I have the Sea Ray equivalent of that boat and have debated the past two summers if I wanted to add the smart tabs to it. This video now gave me an early spring mini project! I can see why you're not going to keep the $10 boat. The Stingray is perfect for the river and lake you are on. Such a nice view and ride. It's early December and I'd love to go on a nice relaxing boat ride! I have some catching up to do with your videos. My dad unfortunately passed away about a month and a half ago and I'm been crazy busy. Looking forward to some time to catch up and see what's going on with that front porch of yours! Hope all is well and you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving!

when you drill a hole in gel coat and fiber glass you should counterr shink the jell coat this will keep it from cracking.

Isn’t it the greatest feeling when you buy something and it almost exceeds your expectations if not fully exceeds your expectations?? I’m glad the tabs worked out for ya! Something tells me the boat got some extra use as a result of their nice experimental cruise!! I was shocked at how quickly you got on plane!! 😮. Sooo nice to see. I’m as excited for your success as if it were mine!! Haha. Love seeing positive results no matter what!! So we still have a Grizzly roaming around our spot on the lake!!! He is a big fella too!! He keeps his distance. He is feeding on the gut piles left behind on the hunters and with the very mild beginning we have for winter this year he may only bed down for winter storms! They do that sometimes. It’s very likely a boar. I haven’t had the chance to lift his tail or leg to see!! 😂😂😂. Just too big to be a sow. It IS beautiful seeing them in a snowy environment as that’s not so common. Hopefully I actually have at least my phone with me so I can get some pictures! They won’t be close, but I will be able to remember the moment every time I look at the pictures… Gee,,,, you sure live in a pretty part of the world!! I’m so happy for you & yours!! 😊😊

The trim tabs looked like they did their job nicely. We had sping loaded on our boat when I was younger and they made a great difference. I hope you and your wife get a chance to enjoy your boat more now. Are you going to put them on the 10 dollar boat? Thanks Tim

I had a Stingray 180 on Candlewood Lake in CT. Very nice build quality and very responsive with a 135 hp.

I miss it, very nice large lake, islands to explore. I'm in TX now and Lake Travis is very simple, just a straight run north , south, two coves. Gets a little boring. But anytime on the water is time well spent. I was in New Fairfield.

Very cool results on those tabs! Crazy how it can affect a boats handling and economy! Was cool to see Normans Camp Marina, my old stomping/fishing grounds with my dad back in the day. I was just visiting KY a couple weeks ago and didn't venture down to the lake as I thought maybe the water level was still way down, but glad to see it back now.
