I worked concrete and masonry for 45 years. I am retired now and this brings back not-so-fond memories. Keep up the good work!

Thanks… I know the name is misleading, my wife got the dog for me so as a pun on size and sex I named her Tank, most people find it funny… the wife doesn’t share my humor! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Looking fun!! The patio expansion on the walkout is a good idea. With this concrete, it will be needed enough, even 5 or so years from now, that any further expansion will match in a year or so after being poured. That other slab you took to the lake was just too old and weathered. While I was watching you work, if I did 100% my best and you did 80% your best, you would still be doing a better job than ME!!! 😂😂. A very good trait on your behalf. When you were running the excavator I think I didn’t tell you about a toy a couple of my family/friends and I bought! A 2012 John Deere 310 front end loader/backhoe. It has a 4 in 1 bucket on front, a 18”, 24” & 36” bucket for the backhoe and about 2300 hours on it. We agreed to 3 ways during an auction and anticipated about $110,000 CAD for it. Bidding died at $63,500. It didn’t meet reserve but there were 16 of them for sale at that auction. This one was the second nicest. The seller contacted me pretty quick, asked if we would do $70,000 plus auction fees as he said that would get him to the good. I asked the guys and we were still $40K better than anticipated! We agreed and it’s at my Bro-in-law’s place right now. I used it a lot at the cabin! (We will be into the 2nd cabin, the new one, in February by the looks of it. The guests will be actually, I’m at the cabin now currently. Just wifey and I out here for Christmas, by design!) It would have been nice here, but that was slick how you moved the slab in one piece. We would have likely had to chain it & damage some edges,,,,,,. You do nice work!! Merry Christmas!! Eh! 😊

Always best to tie your structure together as close to one unit as possible. Your front porch rebar should be bent so that your long ones go into the block cavities at each end. Any ties necessary should happen up on the horizontal a foot or two in. I would highly recommend cross bars bending down into the block as well with the porch end drilled and epoxied into the deck slab. All steel should be on chairs and in the bottom one third of the slab and in the middle of the block cavities. Can't say that I am impressed with your concrete 'contractor's' past performance so it will fall on you to insist it is done right if you want it done properly. Everybody is a concrete contractor, few know or take any pride in doing proper work. A walk in any older neighborhood with concrete porches or block ones will quickly show the poorly done ones with bulkheads caving outwards and huge cracks in them. Decidedly so in cold wet climates or where settling occurs. Best of luck, this will be a very nice looking entryway.

Nice work! I think I called you Kevin in an earlier comment and wanted to be sure I wasn't mis-naming you. Anyway, been on board since the 10 dollar boat's 1st episode and have greatly enjoyed your channel. Love your "can do" attitude towards any project and I love the variety in your videos. I hope you enjoy making them for many years to come. Greetings from northwest WV!
