Love the way the video starts, boat looks empty just before "haul up" (no more cushions in the cockpit!). It's amazing that just a few pieces of wood holds your heavy 'Dancer! I'm revisiting one of your previous videos with the goal to do the winterizing myself come next Fall: I'd save CAD $1,007, plus another $200 on "Spring Start Up" (which, I believe, is mostly about reconnecting the batteries). Oil change happens in the Spring here as well... I should do that myself too. Not sure about transmission oil. Great video!

Yes, doing your own winterizing can save a lot of $$. I'd suggest that if you've never done it, have somebody who's experienced to maybe give you a hand? But given the engines you have, the process is fairly straightforward. Oil changes, same. Nothing to it apart from some greasy hands. We watched your latest video and wanted to say thanks again for the shoutout! And that Boating with Boogaboo shirt looks 👍😁

I am a spring oil changer as well. I just seem to be more motivated in the spring to do maintenance type work. Going to sneak in one last ride today. Supposed to be 80F here in the Green Bay area. Then next weekend, to storage we go. Have a good one, Cheers!

The weather guessers are talking about warm sunshine for us today as well, but that's not materializing yet. Oh well, gonna take a run up to the boat this afternoon with Anchor Girl to do last minute stuff. Enjoy your ride out on the water!!!

I start the process next weekend. Luckily I am going into heated storage so I will have access all winter to clean up and wax in preparation for next season. Jetlag will also be getting new canvas while she is tucked away.

If the thrill is gone maybe a change of scenery is in order. Consider moving to southern gorgeous bay. I grew up boating on simcoe in the late 70’s and 80’s out of Keswick marine. Moved up to gbay in the early 2000’s and never looked back. It is a little farther drive for me but well worth it. So many more places to explore.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
Keswick Marine you say?!?! My boating life began there as a young kid waaaaaaaay back in 1971 when my parents bought their first boat and kept it there. They also kept subsequent boats there up to the 1980's. Eventually when Anchor Girl and I bought our first Sea Ray, we kept it there (as well as the next two) before moving on to the big city of Pefferlaw in 2007. In case you missed it, check out my video that includes some scenes from Keswick Marine, Dawson's and even the original Crates; kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJLPZndva7-FbpYsi=wH9lxcJaDogUgKEk

Awesome trip down memory lane. Dad bought an old wooden Chris craft flybridge on Lake Ontario and took us up the Trent Severn to Keswick when I was 6 months old. So many memories. We were on the last row closest to the lake. I remember a guy John who ran the place. I looked on their website not long ago at some pics and it still looks exactly as I remover it.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
Yes, John Richardson was the owner in those days. Sadly, he passed away suddenly a few years back and the property was sold. But as you mentioned, it still looks incredibly like it did when we left in 2007. I'd like to go back and do a video review of the old stomping grounds at some point. I'm sure there's still a pile of bottle caps in the water next to our old slip 😏 Man, lots of great memories and good times on those docks!!

Same for me, I always wait to change oil in spring and not winter. It never made sense to me.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
Some folks insist on doing it in the fall, including a mechanic friend - and fellow Sea Ray owner - who insists that there's dirty stuff floating around in the oil. I fully agree with that part, but like to replace the dirt with clean in the Spring. Just seems more logical to me...

if the stereo was working, could you share what your favorite playlist might look like?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
The stereo does work - but only at full volume ;-) As far as my playlist of music we listen to on the boat, it would mostly be Classic Rock stuff, such as Bob Seger, Van Halen, The Hip, Elton John, G-n-R and more. Might even throw on a live recording The Rat Pack at The Sands in Las Vegas from back in 1963. Oh ya, let's not forget Frank Sinatra and the ever inspiring Jimmy Buffett. Typical old guy music ;-)

The weather guessers were wrong? That's such a shock... :) I only put 81 hours on my boat this season due to the weather. May was terrible - windy and rainy. The rest of the season seemed like there was rain almost every weekend for one or both days which limited the use. Most seasons I put between 100 and 150 hours on the clock.

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Right on! I am planning the boat tasks to be completed over the winter in preparation for next season - the biggest one is having a new cockpit cover made. The original from 1997 is shot. I put my Sea Ray in storage October 2nd - I had to or I'd lose my storage space. It was tough doing the winterization the last week of September, sweatng like a basketball player all while hearing the boats running on Lake Michigan. I'm going to play around my 14' aluminum boat until the weather gets really crappy. Looking forward to your upcoming videos.

Hey Paul. Just replace the JL Audio deck. Fusion (Garmin) makes great head units that integrate well with phones & Garmin chartplotters... Wink, wink.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm familiar with the fact that one can control a Fusion u it via a Garmin plotter, but that's definitely not for me. If you watched my electronics upgrade video, you may have noticed that I got a completely separate depth/fish finder so that I didn't have to take up any real estate on the plotter's screen, so adding a stereo to the mix isn't for me. Plus, when I ordered the replacement dash panels, one was custom laser cut for the JL head unit and I'm not gonna mess that up. If I can't get it fixed, I simply won't have anything new.

Interesting about the oil change timing. Not really knowing anything previously about boating, it was always curious to me as to why "they say" you should change the oil when you winterize."They say" the old oil shouldn't sit all winter long, but if you change the oil in the fall, doesn't that oil in the spring by definition become somewhat old? Glad to hear you've never had an issue and I'm probably going to wait until the spring as well and enjoy the last month or so of using the boat. Cheers!
@wlarrry2 ай бұрын
I'm gonna go on a limb here,may be wrong,but old oil would be oil that's worked it's way through the engine and started to break down,new oil,completely new and not used so to speak.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
@wlarrry Precisely! And that's why new oil is going to live happily in my two Mercruisers and one Westerbeke come next Spring 👌
@eternitysshore2 ай бұрын
@@wlarrry yes I get that the old oil has worked through the engine but why should the new oil sit all winter long instead of the old oil if you’re going to drain the old oil anyway?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo2 ай бұрын
This is no different than whether one should top up their fuel.tanks or not before putting the boat away for the off season. Not completely unlike like the oil changes, my approach on that is to end the season with whatever is in the tanks and leave it at that. Again, just my tried and true scenarios that have served us fine for the past 25+ years, but you'll always have detractors on the Interwebs... Now, let's not even mention engine fogging. That's sure to make some folks blow a gasket 🤣

I have no experience with Cruisers Yachts, so couldn't offer an opinion on them. That said, we've had twin 7.4 Mercruisers on our last three boats, starting back in 2010. Never any serious issues and I'm looking forward to having those same powerplants in our next Sea Ray 🤫

Yes, original Mercruiser engines. Just a tick under 800 hours in them to date - validated by ECM scans when we bought her in 2022.
