Hi Paul Judging by the time stamp on your post you have Saturday off. For me I am a retired Industrial Electrician. For some fun this year I worked at our local college teaching apprentice Electricians there first intake of methods. I do really enjoy this work. That said I still want my summer time off for boating and old car cruising. I can well imagine that like me you have made some trips to the boat over the winter. Just to sit at the helm and dream. I have our boat right here in our back yard so going to the boat is easy. I left the tarp open able at the stern. So I just untie some rope and I am in. I was picking up in the cabin as the inside was trashed by the previous owners kids. Not badly just a mess which fit into one garbage bag. Going through all the little storage spaces and finding treasures here and there. Planning out some mods to do in spring so I can gather up the parts and pieces I will need. The kicker motor will need shifting and speed controls as well as steering, that is falling into place nicely. Some new gages for the helm.

Hi Paul We were watching this video this evening and saw our boat on the very last minutes. 3 years before we bought it. As we just got it this fall 2018. Yes we have a lot of work to do. The haul will be polished in spring and a new bemimi top made. Yes the ratty blue one has to go. This boat runs very well. Its small but very do able for us for now. Shall I say a good starter boat.

The trent severn is pertty cool with two lift locks and a marine rail system. Still like how the Rideau uses the old school manual locks.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo5 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes, but the Trent Severn Waterway still has a number of the old, manual locks in operation still as well. Story goes that when they were doing the last major overhaul of the system back in the mid 1960's, it was determined that if all the locks were to be upgraded to the hydrolic style, they would lose their historical status. . . We haven't (yet) done much more #boating on the Rideau other than the sea trial of our current #boat at Rideau Ferry two years ago. Looking forward to heading through the entire system in the not too distant future. Cheers, Paul.

The Power Company shut all power off on this Reservation. Bad timing if you ask me. They should of done it in the summer weather rather than a Cool October night. Plus it really throws a house off when electric power is your only heating and cooking source. I always wondered what it would be like going through channel gates like your doing in this video. You'll find it's complete, with all the locks listed, hours, tips and even a highly detailed Google Map that shows the complete Small Craft route. Have a look to see what you can find. Apart from that, I have produced a 76 minute long production video that takes one from 'Mile Zero' at Trenton on Lake Ontario, and through the 240 mile route, up to Port Severn on Georgian Bay. Best if all, it's presented from a boater's perspective. You can find more on it, along with a preview at both TheWaterway.ca and BoatsBeachesAndBars.com :-)

Really confused me for a minute there. First there is no Trent-Severn link in the uk, well, not for boats that wide. second, Peterborough is in the fens, which is flat as a pancake and mostly below sea level, and there are no locks that high. Then I heard the accent and face palmed :-D

It gets even worse. In Ontario, we have Trafalgar and Nelson townships next to each other and containing the villages of Palermo and Bronte, both related to Nelson. My sons went to Nelson High School whose year book is called the Victory. Burnhamthorpe ( Nelson’s birthplace) Road runs through both townships. This area was settled just after the battle of Trafalgar. In Nelson there is the former village of Wellington Square (now Burlington) that used to be beside the village of Aldershot. Unfortunately, not enough people recognize the history contained in our place names.
