Good point. In this case we used the gaff to hook the mouth without piercing the gills. The blood came from the hook unfortunately. We tried our best to be safe (we were moving at 8 knots) and quickly throw back the fish...

@@TheSailingFamily You did great skip! Get some long handled needle nose plyers with the bent nose so you can grab the hook and pull/twist it free. That will keep your hand away from 'Cuda with attitude. Getting the lines out of the the thin water also helps as that's the barracudas domain.
