Next time! We have 2 D2-40 Volvo diesels. Pretty basic engine room. One upgrade is the ability to switch which fuel tank to source the fuel from, and also another switch to send the excess fuel to. It allows us to keep our tank weight even if they get out of whack, or if one tank gets tainted for some reason. Otherwise your basic engine room.

I didn't know you had club foot staysail. this makes sailing off a leah shore shore into the wind easier. Some people say a performance cat gets knocked around too much in bad weather, but I say put some bags of salt water around in specific places, and you can make it weigh as much as a condo.

Good tour of your home. Thank you Question- I noticed a tiny window behind your kids bathroom sink, what the purpose of it? It’s too small as an escape hatch, but my fear it would be a source of a leak? Always love your channel guys. It’s by far the best sailing channel- with the most actual sailing!!! Take care!
@TheSailingFamily3 жыл бұрын
Hi rick. It’s a small lewmar hatch for ventilation. It is a little low but it’s the only air flow for that bathroom. It’s the trade off for designing the heads inboard versus outboard.

Thanks for the tour! I like your interior colors/finishes. Are those customizable with Outremer, or did it come standard that way? While this looks like a very good boat, I agree the HH boats seem better. They certainly have a lot more storage. I'm also a big fan of Balance Catamarans.

Thanks for this video, you have a perfect setup for world exploration, how many 51 did outremer produce?
@TheSailingFamily3 жыл бұрын
I think they built around 30 of the 49 model, which then turned into the 51. I think they built another 50 or so of the newer model, which is what we have. Not 100% sure, but it's been a very popular model for a small boat builder that does not mass produce. ~Seth

Like your vids, nice to see a family exploring the world. A few questions if I might... Notice you dont have a washing machine onboard, how much does that affect you, especially with three boys on board? All handwashing and the occasional washing when at a marina? How much would you trust that boat doing high latitude sailing? Thinking arctic and antarctic passages. If you would trust the boat for that, what changes would you make if any? Again, great detailed video and walkthrough. Been really enjoying your vids. Hope you find your way to Iceland someday...We dont get a lot of performance catamarans up here.... ;)

We like bench seats, but the previous owner swapped it out for a single helm with side supports. This is the better option for off-shore sailing, but not as cozy for two people (obviously)! That said, we've come to like it!

@TheSailingFamily3 жыл бұрын
What would you like to know? These are symmetrical and solid glass. The design could be improved if they were asymmetrical and carbon, but that would cost a bit more. We lower the leeward board unless it's very rough out, then we use our windward board. And we always have them up when sailing downwind. Hope that helps.
@dougallen46753 жыл бұрын
@@TheSailingFamily , what do they do? Why do you need them?
@TheSailingFamily3 жыл бұрын
They act like surfboard fins. They help the boat track in a straight line and keep the boat from drifting sideways. So, imagine the wind coming over one side. The boards transfer the lateral movement into forward movement. Very important for a performance catamaran.
